The unveiling of a labour of love finally hits the press in the @ft_houseandhome @ft_weekend

An obsession with timber and all things that I like to live with. For most people - and especially creatives - the need to create a home that is safe and “yours” is so important. It’s not often you get to experiment and design a space in the way that you want to live. The project has been about bringing together forgotten ideas and materials that are key to @ebbaarchitects in a space that I get to enjoy every day.

Newly completed full house restoration captured in the garden. A two-storey full width infill to the rear of the terraced house. Reconfiguration of the lower and ground floors help open up and connect to main living spaces, while the upper floors have been updated with new interventions throughout. A steel structural facade frames the views out to the garden and at the same time transforms the rear of the house to give it a porous quality.

We are enjoying seeing the house come to life!

We are really pleased to announce that we have been selected to design the next Garden Building for Horatios Garden in North Yorkshire. @horatiosgarden is a charity that creates beautiful, accessible spaces for spinal injury patients, supporting rehabilitation through gardening, social connection and wellbeing. We’re excited to contribute to such a meaningful project, enhancing lives through thoughtful design and enriching this vital healing environment.

Working with the amazing team at @studiopollyannadesign and @pollyanna_wilkinson we are looking forward to continuing our development for the designs of the new structures, aiming to reflect the materials found in the north and a celebration of the rugged qualities of these natural landscapes.

Thank you to the amazing team at Horatios for the support and generosity on the project. Also thank you to @arupgroup for the continued technical support.

Eclipse Installation, Draaimolen 2026

Still enjoying the aftermath of last weekend. Thank you for all the messages about this piece!

The installation was designed as a moment of pause at Draaimolen Festival, titled Eclipse. An eclipse is a moment of interruption and for a few minutes light falls, temperatures drop, and everyone stops to look at the same thing. This is the closest we still come to the rituals that
once gathered people around the sun.

The intervention restages that pause in a forest clearing. A draped fabric canopy holds the space, an invitation to lie back and rest. The platform beneath carries low-frequency energy which is felt through the body rather than heard.
Above, a halo of light flickers and responds in rhythm with the vibrations below: radiance
passing behind shadow. The installation is about asking of visitors to stop and watch the light
change together, and to feel a deeper connection with the forest and our place in the world.

Thank you to the hard work from all involved: Eliza, Rikard, Defne, Pablo, Paul, Ali, Fabin

Night shots of Eclipse at @draaimolen_

The lighting reflects the energy and resonance from the earth and surroundings, as a way to connect with the site. Imagined as a place to contemplate and come together around a un-natural event.

EBBA was selected as one of a select visual artists to develop a piece for the festival.

Thank you again to the incredible team who made this happen!

Cup of Joy (@cupofjoy.goodcoffee) has travelled from Istanbul’s Bebek neighbourhood to Marylebone for its first address abroad. The speciality coffee and bakery brand takes over two floors on Blandford Street, with EBBA Architects (@ebbaarchitects) shaping an interior informed by Istanbul’s stone walls, recessed openings and shaded courtyards. Clay plaster and Portland stone give the ground floor the irregular composition of old masonry, while oak-lined recesses are carved into the thick walls for benches and small seating areas. Timber and opaque glass soften the light overhead, with a terracotta-concrete staircase leading to a more closely enclosed dining room below.

Coffee remains at the centre of it all. Cup of Joy’s house blend combines sustainably sourced Arabica beans from El Salvador, Brazil and Colombia, with flavours of dark chocolate, orange and hazelnut, served alongside pastries and an all-day menu. Even the cups have a personal touch: each one-off ceramic piece is made by co-founder and self-taught ceramicist Gökçe Kalyoncu, with its own uneven profile and glazed surface.

Take a seat inside Istanbul’s latest arrival in Marylebone via the link in bio or at wallpaper.com.

EBBA is developing a series of low-carbon strategies that test ways of reducing cement and steel in construction. For this years @l_d_f_official we are working with @institutocervanteslondon and @concentricofestival on a new installation.

The studio will present a prototype column developed as part of an ongoing research project, one that will culminate in the design of an outdoor classroom and chicken coop in Spain. Shown at full scale, the prototype is a working fragment of a building that does not yet exist, a way of testing materials, assembly and structure before the wider project takes shape.

The research is an exploration of columns, compression and void, where architecture emerges through the tension between structural mass and the spaces it encloses. Rather than reading as singular objects, the columns are understood as accumulations of stacked elements, compressed into dense vertical forms that express both weight and assembly. Each column carries the evidence of how it was made, proposing a way of building in which structure, material and method are held in a single gesture.

A talk presented by the studio alongside @jpenaibanez will be held at the Cervantes Institute in London on Monday 14th September 630PM - tickets available via Eventbrite link in bio.

Film of Pulse Installation, Houghton (re-edit)

Coinciding with the second instal of Pulse at @houghtonfestival this month we are sharing an updated film that captures the atmosphere of the piece. Pulse is a site specific work that helps create a closer connection with the forest environment. We are excited to see this up for a Gold award by @framemagazine (more via link in bio).

Thank you to the organisers and everyone involved in the delivery of the project, as well as all the people that have messaged about it!!

Plug in and listen to the film, produced from sounds captured from the trees on site at Houghton.

Happy to share a few more shots from our recently completed interior featured on @dezeen

EBBA are interested in creating spaces that feel calm yet also provide a sense of delight. A lot of our work is about using natural materials and developing palettes that are comforting on the eye and the body, sometimes unnoticed initially. Here the terracotta tones, the warm oak combined with a darker walnut colour downstairs, allows for a contrast of light and shade, which emphasises the tonality that we experienced during our research visits to Istanbul.

There’s is a subtle contrast between the two floors that is both in terms of form and materiality. The ground floor is more structured yet also playful, such as the column arrangement with incidental places to sit and the large oak bar that zig-zags across the space. A communal table in the centre negotiates these geometries and helps demarcate the space.

The seating area downstairs has soft curves and low seating that allows for a place to work and relax, including a niche formed in a continuous oak panelling and oculus above (that will no doubt become a favourite seat in the house).

Thank you again to all those involved and @cupofjoy.goodcoffee for the support throughout!
