My loves,As of today, I’m officially on holiday! 🌞I’m heading off to Thailand, and it really does feel like the trip of a lifetime. I fully intend to immerse myself in the adventure, the culture, the nature, and everything this beautiful country has to offer.I’ll be back in the studio on 13th July. Happy Summer Solstice 🌞The longest day of the year and one of my favourite moments in the seasonal calendar.Yesterday, I spent the eve of the solstice at a sweat sauna retreat, slowing down, releasing and reflecting on the year so far. Today, I’ll be spending time on the water with my paddleboard, making the most of the light and hopefully a little sunshine too.It’s easy to focus on what’s still left to do, but the solstice always feels like a good reminder to appreciate how far we’ve already come.I’ve shared a longer reflection on the journal if you’d like a read. By the end of the call, it was like we’d known each other a lifetime.This ring carries three layers of meaning she brought to the conversation herself.On one arm, a tiny urn. Inspired by the jar held by Mary Magdalene in historical paintings, said to have contained sacred ointment. The vessel itself carries devotion, service, sacrifice, and transformation.On the other, a Pictish mirror. Carved to honour her Glaswegian heritage. A symbol found on the gravestones of noble Scottish women. Connected to seeing your true self. Inner knowing. Feminine wisdom. Reflection. Ancestors.And on the face, a rose. Receptivity and openness. I nearly drove straight past it.A slither of gold, low on the horizon. By the time I got home I was already heading for the telescope.I climbed onto the roof in the back garden and spent the next half hour photographing it as it slowly slipped towards the horizon. This was one of the images I captured.Crescents don’t hang around. They sit close to the horizon, briefly visible before the sky swallows them. This one was gold against the indigo of a winter sky, and it was enough to stop what I was doing and go and find it.What I keep coming back to with the moon is that it’s always the same moon. But it’s never quite the same sky around it. Never quite the same colour or quality of light.That evening, it was gold. And eventually, it found its way to the workbench.Moment No.002. My jewellery journey began 8 years ago making pendants and rings from sea glass.At the time, it was my way of giving something back to nature, removing something that shouldn’t be there and transforming it into something beautiful.
