I've learned when I'm really struggling to manage my mental and physical health I need to sometimes take a step back and consider what is contributing to my list of problems. Sometimes some of my plants end up on that list.

Over the last year or so I have really tried to focus on the plants that actually make me happy and the ones that I dread to even look at. I've learned which genera are my favorites and the traits I prefer.

I don't really like Monstera. I find moss poles so frustrating, and I just hate working with sphagnum moss in general, so climbing plants are generally out of the question unless I enjoy their vining form.

But this post is about newer additions or plants I've had for a while that are finally finding their footing in our home.

I would like to start periodically posting updates on my plants, because I just love being able to see their progress. Sometimes I don't always immediately notice how much growth a plant has until seeing older photos of it.

I stumbled upon the Alocasia Simpo Albo one day and it immediately made me think of the Syngonium Albo, but it doesn't vine! I believe it is a hybrid of Sinuata and Lukiwan.

I have a love/hate relationship with Syngonium. I love the variety and how easy they are to grow. But because they are so easy to grow, they can be a pain to keep up with.

This is an older photo, and I've since repotted it into pon. It is currently pushing out another leaf and I am just really excited to see this one grow. I have not seen many of them.

This Begonia Harmony's Space Fairy is the newest in my collection and I actually shared it in my stories recently. I've always wanted to get some Rex Begonias, and on my hunt for a Helen Teupel, I found Harmony's Space Fairy and ended up ordering it instead!

If you haven't seen the mature form, I highly recommend looking it up! It has such a unique look. ๐Ÿฅฐ

โ€ผ๏ธ I just had an outpatient "surgery" (it was for my IUD, long story) done earlier today under general anesthesia so ignore any typos lol. I'm still tired and in pain. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Ok so hear me out. I needed a notebook for my university notes, especially with my senior thesis approaching. I also wanted to get a commonplace journal for hobby related notes and research. I got the Sterling Ink A5 Slim for one and it was between the Moleskine Expanded, Leuchtturm 411, and the Stalogy 365 for the other.

I ended up ruling out Leuchtturm and Stalogy. I've tried Stalogy previously and unpopular opinion, but I think the paper is overrated. It bleeds for me and I don't like the amount of ghosting. With the Leuchtturm the major turn off was that the 411 was only available in hardcover and that was actually one of the turnoffs for why I went with the 2027 Pocket Daily Moleskine also. That and the weird A6 size that I don't think would have fit in my Pocket Planner Room Shop cover and I really don't want or need to buy anymore covers right now.

The Moleskine was also cheaper at the time I bought it. Also I just loved my previous Moleskine despite all the hate they get.

So I did pen tests on both the Sterling Ink (koji paper) and the Moleskine expanded and I actually much preferred the Moleskine. The only issue with bleeding that I had was with my Monteverde Inks (which give me issues on pretty much any paper I try) and my cheap highlighters. Otherwise I absolutely love it and I'm so glad I didn't just listen to the masses.

I'm sure there are some who get a bad batch, but I feel like that's been the case with even TRP now anyway. Also I just didn't love the amount of ghosting with the new Koji paper in my Sterling Ink.

I just got the Pocket Moleskine today so I haven't tested the paper yet. But regardless, I don't really use my fountain pens on the go as a lefty anyway. I just have to hold my pen and notebook a specific way which is hard to do on the go.

I'm happy though! ๐Ÿฅฐ by @echeverials

I've been waiting all week for this book! House of Blight by @maxymmckay was just so good!

I mentioned this in my review (you can find my book socials in my profile if curious), but as someone who used to main both a Necromancer in Guild Wars 2 and a Death Knight in World of Warcraft I absolutely loved the descriptions of the blight lol.

Prior to starting House of Blight, I saw mentions of it not being considered gothic or the pacing was slow and to be honest, I completely disagree with both of those statements. House of Blight had me hooked and it was absolutely a gothic fantasy and exactly the kind of book I've been craving all year! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

I loved the mystery behind everything. I loved not knowing everything and having my predictions for the ending actually be wrong for once! I really don't want to say much else because going in blind was such a fun experience.

Oh and Seville was absolutely my favorite character lol. I'm hoping we get more of her in Manor of Decay. I wouldn't be opposed to a spinoff about her story either. Just throwing it out there. ๐Ÿ˜‚

House of Blight had me thoroughly entertained and it was one of my 5โญ๏ธ books of the year so far. I'm so excited to start Manor of Decay! But first I need to finish some assignments. ๐Ÿฅฒ

House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau was just so, SO good! The only book I've been able to read in like the last year and a half where I didn't get distracted by something else. I cannot wait to read Manor of Decay! by @echeverials

I know I mostly post about journaling and books here, but sometimes I do like to share my plants. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿชด

Remember my story post about going to Lowe's for a pot but leaving with 4 hybrid succulents and a Burle Marx Flame? This was the pot and it was for my Monstera Thai Constellation that's needed to be repotted for like the last 6 months but I was just too sick and tired to lol.

The second photo is an old story post from my personal IG last May I believe of the same plant (the one on the right iirc). When I got it from Walmart, I'm surprised it was even alive because it was SOAKED and had terrible root rot. I honestly didn't think it would make it lol.

I immediately removed all the soil, got rid of the rotting roots, and repotted it into pon. It took off and eventually I couldn't keep up with how often I had to upsize the pot because of how fast it was growing, and my health was pretty bad, so I just threw it in my own soil mix and here we are now lol.

Since the Thai Constellation is technically a crawling plant, I'm not exactly sure what I'll do with it once it outgrows this pot. Maybe I will chop it and propagate? by @echeverials

I had a whole caption for this but it got deleted lol.

Anyway, photos from my vacation. Most I posted to my stories the day they happened. I also ended up bringing my N2 undated common planner to keep up with my 5 year diary entries. by @echeverials

I ordered these vinyls back in March and they finally arrived a couple of days ago lol. Some of my favorite albums. I was specifically on the hunt for a copy of Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete. by โ€ โ€ โ€  (crosses) but it was a little hard finding a place that sold both that album and Gore by Deftones.

I'll probably post more photos in my stories another day of Gore, HADES by Melanie Martinez, and An Ending in Itself by Sleeping With Sirens because they all look really cool imho.

I got so excited about the Gore vinyl that I pulled out the CD I bought when it originally released (it's pink btw) and was showing it to my husband lol. Also when I pulled out, I realized that Gore has been out for 10 years now and that's honestly wild to me because I remember when I bought it and it doesn't feel like that long ago.

Anyway, I was really excited to share these because I've been waiting for them to arrive for a while! by @echeverials

I picked up the Cloth & Paper Petite notebook months ago but wasn't sure how I wanted to use it. Well, I was finally able to figure out a use.

I decided to turn it into my pen and ink journal. This way I have a way to remember what inks worked best with which pens and nibs. Also, if I haven't used an ink in a while and can't remember what it looked like, instead of flipping through old journals or planners to see if I wrote it down somewhere, I have a dedicated place to look.

I'll be honest, using this notebook and my Sterling Ink 5 Year Diary lately makes me kind of miss using higher GSM paper! ๐Ÿซฃ

Another way I'm using it is to track my favorite quotes from whatever books I happen to be reading.

A few days ago I finally finished Beyond the Aching Door by Victoria Mier and omg I loved this book so, so much! Generally, urban fantasy isn't really my favorite. This book took me by complete surprise though and I am so happy that I stumbled upon it because this is easily in my TOP 5 books that I've ever read and I know some won't like the FMC but I found her so relatable and she reminded me of myself quite a few times throughout the book. If you like books involving the Fey court, moody kelpies, Welsh and Slavic Folklore, with a sprinkle of Arthurian legends and a FMC who loves telling people to "f off," please give this a try! It's such a unique fantasy romance and exactly what I've been searching for within this genre.

There's only one spicy scene, there's a good amount of diverse representation, and it's 100% an actual slow burn but there is a ton of yearning throughout. Check the trigger warnings though. More so for heavy topics related to mental health and loss.

I'm patiently waiting for my signed copy of the second book to arrive, and I can't wait!!! by @echeverials

FIRST: I just want to say the camera stops moving so much once I start actually showing the deck. My hands get shaky (yay TD from BP1 meds lol) and I don't have a tripod or anything like that for my phone. I'll get one eventually! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I don't normally do reels so, I'm sorry this is so messy and chaotic, or if it's hard to understand me lol. When I'm anxious I tend to talk faster and my words kind of meld together a bit.

Anyway, I was on the hunt for a tarot deck that was focused on Black people because honestly, there aren't many. And those 78+ card decks that have 2-4 Black people in it are just not what I'm looking for lol. I stumbled upon this deck and had to grab it!

I believe this is the 2nd version of this deck. The first version I believe is pocket sized, but it is now OOP. This deck was created with the practice of Hoodoo in mind, and there are religious themes within it and the guidebook.

If you have any other recommendations for diverse decks, especially if they feature Black people throughout and not just on a couple cards, please let me know!

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Oh and I know I'm moving A LOT at the beginning so if you're having a hard time reading the box, the deck is Grandma Baby's Black Gold Lenormand Too! by @echeverials

I saw this box at a local craft store while running some errands on Friday and thought it'd be perfect for storing my stickers, stamps, and random journaling deco! I only paid like $4 for it too. They had bigger sizes too so I think I might go back and pick up a couple more. ๐Ÿ‘€ by @echeverials

When I read When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker, it was originally in its indie form. It quickly became one of my absolute favorite books!

I am so happy to finally be able to read The Ballad of Falling Dragons now because I feel like it's been ages! One thing I've missed was is the beautiful artwork throughout the book! By the way, I'm still mad at myself for not grabbing the B&N Exclusive that uses this same art style. Maybe one day I'll just buy the Waterstones version which I believe is exactly the same.

Anyway, I haven't gotten too far in yet. Yesterday I seriously thought I was having a heart attack because I got so dehydrated. It's not that I dislike water. It's literally all that I like to drink most of the time. I just have a terrible habit of not recognizing when I'm thirsty. I think in the last two days I pretty much only drank enough fluids to take my medication and like a cup of coffee yesterday. I think the coffee is what triggered the worst symptoms along with an asthma attack. I told my husband he might need to take me to the hospital until he started asking me a bunch of questions and put two and two together. At which point he immediately bought some of those hydration packets and drinks and made me drink them.

I felt better after about an hour and I feel fine today aside from my allergies.

Point of the story: remember to stay hydrated! Especially if you're on medication that will dehydrate you!! by @echeverials

When @sterlingink announced the new undated daily planners I had to grab one (or maybe two). I had the original undated daily, but since the daily pages were still dated, I still had the same exact problem that I always have with dated planners, multiple weeks worth of blank spaces due to both my physical and mental health.

These are perfect for my hobby journals, where sometimes I don't update them for months or weeks and can come back to them at any point. I realized I don't need weekly pages for my hobby journals so even the undated weeklies never worked out.

But then when she announced the new 5 Year Diary, I couldn't help myself lol. I've been wanting one for a while, but the Sterling Ink ones were sold out for so long, I'm not a fan of the Hobonichi ones because they have the years dated and I didn't like the layouts of the Midori ones. Any other's that I stumbled upon, I just wasn't sure about the paper quality. This one uses Cosmo Air and it's different, but it's handling my inks beautifully!

Although, the listing said it came with year date stamps, mine did not? I'm hoping I didn't accidentally throw them away, but I'm like 98% sure there weren't any stamps in my package. Maybe I misread the product listing? If anyone knows about this, please let me know.

But anyway, I'm not sure if I will use the Onyx or FairyFloss first. One I will save for the future. This will be my new tarot journal going forward!

Oh and I don't know if it's just my previous Sterling Ink notebooks being older, but I feel like the gilded edges on these new ones are so much more shiny and glittery! They were literally reflecting off my wall. ๐Ÿ˜โœจ
