Hi, I'm echo. Sharing a thing or two about the birds & wildlife of the Philippines 🍃
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The Flying Gem. 💎The Garden Sunbird (Cinnyris jugularis) is the Philippines' answer to the hummingbird. 🐦 Once considered common across Asia, this species was recently reclassified as a Philippine Endemic, meaning it's unique to our islands (excluding Palawan). It is uniquely ours. IUCN Status: Least Concern, but that doesn't mean they are safe. They thrive in cities only if we feed them. Stop planting just green hedges. Plant red, tubular flowers (like Gumamela or Santan). ❤️ Color in your garden = food for them. by @echointhewildph

The Philippine Magpie-Robin is the voice of our mornings and it’s a species found nowhere else on earth. 🇵🇭 Once considered the same as the mainland "Oriental" version, science confirmed it is uniquely Filipino. It is an aggressive defender of its home, often chasing birds twice its size. Across Southeast Asia, millions of these birds are lost to the cage-bird trade for their voices.
🍃
Instead of caging them, plant dense native shrubs (like Santan or Bougainvillea) in your garden. They love thick cover. Build a habitat, and the music comes to you for free. 🐦 by @echointhewildph

The Philippine Swamphen is uniquely ours and it’s smarter than it looks. It’s one of the few birds that uses its feet like hands to manipulate food with primate-like dexterity.

They hunt invasive Golden Apple Snails (a major rice pest). Instead of chasing them away, maintaining native reed buffers around farms allows them to serve as free, non-toxic pest control. Coexistence pays off. by @echointhewildph

Some birds don’t dominate the sky, they keep the forest alive! 🐦 The Golden Bellied Gerygone plays a vital role in controlling insects and signaling forest health. Protecting them means protecting the ecosystem they echo through. #GoldenBelliedGerygone #Wildlifeconservation #wildbird #wildlifephotography #wildlife by @echointhewildph

Small. Brilliant. Precise. 🐦

The Common Kingfisher travels thousands of kilometers to spend the winter season along Philippine rivers and wetlands. Its presence reflects the health of our freshwater systems, places both wildlife and people depend on. Clean water protects more than what we see.

Loud. Bold. Unmistakable.

The Collared Kingfisher is one of the most recognizable birds in the Philippines. Often seen near water, often heard before it’s seen. Its survival is tied to mangroves, rivers, and coastline ecosystems that protect us as much as they protect wildlife. 🐦Conservation begins where land meets sea. 🍃 This was my spark bird. 💙

A watchful eye. A poised hunter. The Brown Shrike sits at the edges of forests and fields, listening, waiting, hunting. Not flashy, not rare but essential to the balance of open habitats. A migratory bird in the Philippines, meaning they go here when it's cold in its country of origin. Conservation isn’t just about the endangered, it’s about the survivors that show us the health of the world around us. by @echointhewildph

A familiar silhouette over Philippine skies. 🦅The Brahminy Kite is often seen but rarely understood. Its presence tells a story about our coasts, our waters, and the balance that still exists if protected.
