SPECIAL READING by Maria Patricia Tinajero

July 24 at Noon EDT
ecoartspace at Swale House
Nolan Park - 6b
Governors Island, NYC

What Resurfaces: Decomposition, Art, and the Ethics of Becoming Soil

Stop by Swale for a reading on decomposition by Maria Patricia Tinajero accompanied by a participatory textile burial as part of the ecoartspace Soil Shroud Project. Moving between stories, soil, textiles, and decomposition, the gathering asks what becomes visible when we attend to processes of decay and return. Attendees will enage with different ways of encountering soil — not simply as matter beneath our feet, but as a living field of relationships, memory, transformation, and care.

This week at Swale on Governors Island! New exhibition and reading by Maria Patricia Tinajero

Stalk Market Report: Cultivating an Agricultural Archive

For 30 years (1996−2025), the Stalk Market Report traveled with vegetables from Neu Erth Wormfarm, a community-supported organic farm in Reedsburg, WI. The newsletters emerged from a practice of art and argiculture cultivated together. Across their pages, crops, weather, recipes, soil, artists, farmers, experiments, and failures became part of the cultureshed. The archive resurfaces as an installation inviting visitors to browse, read, and listen. Through digital and physical archival materials and recorded readings, the project asks what an agricultural archive can hold beyond information.

Opening: July 24, 3 – 6:30pm EDT

On view: July 25 – 26, 11am-5pm EDT

Her second published book of poetry & prose to be released late summer.

FERAL by Stephanie Garon

In her follow-up collection ACREAGE, environmental artist Stephanie Garon weaves her visually-arresting, nature-leaning poetry around a slightly surreal narrative about installing art in a river deep in the Vermont woods. Nature often fiercely guards her secrets, but fortunately Garon saw fit to impart a few.

"I tried to silence the river. Loud and unruly, it refused. I moved stones methodically. Then March storms dragged winter’s snowmelt through the landscape. The river swelled, first freezing me in place, then thawing what had long been buried. The river ran unstoppable—a wild unraveling, a surreal awakening, a journey back to the untamed landscape of the self."

Join the program tomorrow in Miami!

Suññata is a solo exhibition of works by Emily Peters, presenting a body of participatory installation works spanning the mediums of sustainable textile, sound, film and performance that engage in subconscious mind repatterning, nervous system re-regulation and self-inquiry, at Gallery 100, Intercontinental Miami, Florida.

Through July 31, 2026

REPOST @atelier.eiy

We gather in the name of Earth on the second Monday of SUññATA - my solo exhibition in sustainable textile and sound with @collaboartive_ at Gallery 100 @interconmiami

Surrounded by field recording soundscapes from South Florida, Southern California and Northern Thailand, first we will open our energy channels with pranayama and loosen our physical bodies with free movement inspired by Gaga Metodika. Then, we will paint with one of the oldest methods of dyeing that can be found in different forms all throughout the world’s history: combining mineral pigments with a glutenous substance and applying it to fabric.

Release yourself to your inner knowing and investigate mark-making with a variety of tools, found objects, brushes or even your hands using a prepared solution of mineral Earth pigments and soy. Bring your own fabrics or objects to upcycle, or use the artist’s fabrics, and be sure to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting creative in. To close, we’ll share our experiences and insights with each other.
