@nycmayor @nycparks @nycsanitation can we please install these in parks around the city instead of using tons of plastic bags for our leaves?

#Repost from Grow An Edible Garden:

Every autumn, I watch people pack up dozens of bags of leaves for the city to haul away. Then, come spring, they drive to the garden center and pay premium prices for plastic bags of soil conditioners and peat moss. It makes me chuckle, honestly. The best soil builder I’ve ever used is sitting out there under the trees right now, doing exactly what nature intended. It takes practically zero effort to make, but you do have to know what it looks like when it’s *actually* ready to use—and there’s a very specific way to harvest the ‘black gold’ hidden right in the middle of the pile. I stopped buying the expensive bagged stuff twenty years ago once I realized what was sitting in my own backyard. by @ecoharmreduction

I put bell pepper seeds in a damp paper towel, and enclosed them in a ziplock bag and let it sit on a window sill for 2 weeks. Just checked on them and some of them sprouted! 🌱 planted the strongest looking ones. Excited to see if they’ll keep growing! by @ecoharmreduction

Yay @caitconley !!!! Let’s do this! @repmikelawler has voted for lots of environmentally disastrous legislation and provides no opposition to Trump administration corruption. Time for him to go!!!

Let’s normalize gifting food instead of stuff! This is homemade focaccia made with all organic ingredients and topped with rosemary, chives and sage from my garden. When I gift this to people they are more excited about it than anything I could buy in a store. And let’s remember eco, plastic free packaging as well: recycled cookie tins and wax paper bags work well. 💚
