Much needed mini holiday in Styria, Austria! So grateful to spend time in the land of my ancestors and birthplace. Feeling so refreshed hanging out with family, being immersed in nature, swimming in pristine lakes, walking in the forest, eating traditional food (OMG how I miss the Austrian bread and pastries which are actually good for my digestive system!!!). Highlight was staying in such beautiful traditional-modern accomodation in the countryside. And seeing ordinary farms with solar and wind energy front and centre. Austria is definitely at its best in combing tradition with modern techology and climate action! taken in Austria by @ecoscenography

Thank you @ietmnetwork for a wonderful gathering in Oulu, Finland, where we explored new horizons for the performing arts in Europe and beyond. This was my first time at an IETM meeting and I was struck by how warm, joyful and inclusive the community was.

I found my fellow eco-minded theatre folks very quickly here. @merinikula @wild_works and @shaulacambazzu were part of the IETM Green School that I hosted last year and meeting them in person and hearing more about their practice was very special.

Before coming to Oulu, I was also lucky to meet with Sara and John from the Enabling Multispecies Transitions of Cities and Regions Lab (MUST) in Helsinki to talk about future collaborations (See last pic).

P+ERL and MUST are super excited to be co-hosting a symposium on "Performing More-than-Human Relations: Arts-Science Strategies for a climate changed world" ( 24th of November, Helsinki). We will be sharing more about this soon!

It is with great sadness that I share that my dearest friend and adopted dad Milton Perks passed away peacefully 3 weeks ago today. His death was the consequence of a tragic fall and we are still in shock and coming to terms with what happened. In the days leading up to his passing, he was so gracious and stoic, a true testament to the best of humans.

If you were lucky enough to have met Milton, you will know how much he was a tremendous part of my life. He was my greatest supporter and advocate, nurturing my love for nature and the performing arts. He worked with me on several Living Stage projects, including Castlemaine, NYC, Lorne and Melbourne. In every project, he was crucial to maintaining the plant care of the space. He was a dedicated gardener, overseeing watering and monitoring plant health and central to every project's success. He was also an incredible community liason, making heartfelt connections with collaborators and audiences alike.

Milton taught me how love is a verb and families can be found, but his greatest gift was that he truly made me a better person. It is the legacy of his friendship that I will always carry with me.  Milton, we miss you so much already and you will be greatly missed by so many who knew you. by @ecoscenography

When craft becomes ethics.

Meet Laura Marnezti (Mexico), a costume designer with nearly fifteen years of experience exploring costumes as living sculptures that transform spatial and bodily perception.

Her interest in sustainability stems from a 'craft ethic' that values slow processes, manual techniques, and dignified labour. Working intuitively with circularity, she transforms existing materials and natural fibres through close proximity to materiality and respect for those who work with it.

For Laura, sustainability isn't an imposed framework but emerges organically from gentler production schedules with maintenance and repair programmes instead of replacement.

What if scenography wasn't about objects at all?

Meet Elina Lifländer (Finland), scenographer, spatial artist, and lecturer whose practice challenges us to see beyond the visible.

Rooted in contemporary dance and experimental performance, Elina works with invisible scenography and spatial rhythms as conceptual materials. Her sustainability emerges from natural and recycled materials, but also from immaterial design strategies themselves.

For her, scenography is spatial and relational thinking rather than object-based construction. The most sustainable design might be the one you can't see – but deeply feel.
