🌍 The future of climate innovation starts in our classrooms.

On 7th October 2026, we concluded a one-week in-school capacity development programme at a public secondary school in Ikeja, Lagos in partnership with UR4Africa Project Inc., introducing 30+ students to the possibilities of climate action, green technology and African futurism.

But we didn’t stop at learning. 💡

The students formed five teams, each exploring one of Lagos State’s five climate focus areas, and pitched solutions to challenges within their communities - renewable energy, waste management, circular economy, sustainable agriculture, urban greening.

For us at Ecospaces Africa, this is what building the green economy looks like: helping young people move from understanding the challenges around them to imagining, designing and building solutions for their local communities.

And this is only the beginning. We’re looking forward to working with these five teams to develop their ideas further and explore what they can become.

Because Africa’s climate future shouldn’t be built for young people alone. It should be built with them, starting now. 🌱

A huge thank you to the school and our partners @ur4africa @sufdi_nigeria @climaverb.hq for making this possible.

What if the next big African business opportunity is sitting somewhere between food, people and the way we do business? 🌍🌱

Across West Africa, young people are already building in agribusiness — growing, processing, trading, moving food, building tech, creating new products and solving everyday problems.

But there’s still a bigger conversation we need to have:

What opportunities are actually out there for young people? Where are the gaps? And what would it take for more of us to move from simply participating in the food system to actually building and owning value within it?

This time, we’re taking the conversation to West Africa. 🇬🇲🇳🇬🇨🇮

For the second YAPI Index Dialogue, we’re bringing together voices from The Gambia, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire to unpack youth, agribusiness and the opportunities shaping the region’s food future.

No long speeches. No “youth are the future” clichés. 😅

Just an honest conversation about young people, agribusiness, opportunities, barriers and what we can build differently.

If you’re a young entrepreneur, farmer, student, innovator, researcher, creative, policymaker—or simply curious about where Africa’s food economy is heading—

pull up. 👀🌱

🌍 Africa is young. But are young people getting a real opportunity to shape the future of food?

From farming and food processing to AgriTech, logistics, climate innovation and agribusiness, young Africans have the potential to transform how food is produced, moved and consumed across the continent.

But to unlock that potential, we need to understand where young people are participating, what opportunities exist, what barriers they face, and what needs to change.

That’s where the Youth in Agrifood Systems Performance Index (YAPI) comes in.

Developed through an African Union framework, YAPI is designed to help us better understand and measure youth participation in Africa’s agrifood systems—and turn that knowledge into better opportunities, policies, investments and support for young people.

In this conversation, we’ll explore what YAPI means for young Africans, entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors and everyone interested in the future of Africa’s food systems.

Because the question isn’t whether young people have a role in Africa’s food future.

The question is: are we building the systems that allow them to take that role? 🌱

Join us for The YAPI Index Dialogue: Africa, Youth & Agrifood Systems.

What would Africa’s food system look like if young people had the data, capital, technology and opportunity to build it?

We don’t just want to talk about young people in agriculture. We want to understand what it takes for young people to actually build, own and lead Africa’s agrifood future.

This is what we would be exploring at #TYFSD
We would love to know your thoughts too💚

😊 Everyone thinks agriculture = planting + harvesting

The real conversation at our previous webinar proved otherwise. It’s making brutal decisions when:
• Weather flips overnight
• Input costs keep climbing
• Doing it sustainably feels 10× harder

No one waits to feel “ready.”
The builders just start → learn fast → build systems that actually survive Africa’s unpredictability.

Here are the rawest insights & real founder trade-offs we unpacked in that session: climate-smart agribusiness truth, no fluff. 🌱💡

If any of this hit home, drop a 🌱 in the comments + tag a friend grinding (or about to jump) in ag. by @ecospaces.hq

Stop me if you’ve heard this one: “Agriculture is the backbone of Africa.” 🌍 🦴

We know the potential, but why is 30-50% of our food still lost before it even hits the plate? According to Ifeoluwa Olatayo (Founder of FarmSlate), the “plague” of food waste isn’t just about bad roads—it’s a data problem.

In our latest session on The Future of Climate Tech, Ifeoluwa broke down why “good intentions” aren’t enough to build a resilient food system. It takes systems thinking, operational discipline, and radical transparency.

Swipe through to see how Ifeoluwa is shifting the narrative from “charity farming” to “bankable agri-intelligence” using:
✅ Satellite data to de-risk farming for banks
✅ Information symmetry to kill food waste
✅ Practical regenerative practices that actually work on the ground

The green economy isn’t a buzzword—it’s an opportunity for young Africans to lead with data and discipline.

Which slide hits home for you? Let’s talk about it in the comments. 👇 by @ecospaces.hq

♻️🤭 Our first session of the year is happening THIS SATURDAY!

We’re opening the year with an honest conversation on climate-smart solutions for better agriculture and food systems 🌱

Meet two of our facilitators:

🌾 🇹🇿Sospeter will share his journey leading one of Tanzania’s largest rice farms—from taking on operational leadership to ensuring farming practices align with sustainability and climate requirements.

📊 🇳🇬Ifeoluwa currently a Fellow at Antler and TECA by BFA Global will walk us through her work at the intersection of agriculture, data, and innovation, and her experience contributing to global agritech conversations, especially around how young people and women can drive meaningful change in the sector.

If you care about the future of food, farming, and climate-smart innovation in Africa—this conversation is for you.

📍See you there. by @ecospaces.hq
