Check out the newest addition of the ECU School of Art and Design Graduate Publication & !!! Each year this publication offers a glimpse into the evolving conversations taking place within our program. The work presented here reflects artists committed to experimentation, rigorous inquiry, and meaningful dialogue. Working across disciplines, media and methodologies, our students investigate questions of identity, memory, place, materiality, and the human experience while developing practices that are distinctly their own. taken in ECU School of Art and Design by @ecumfa

The Quiet Migration of Belonging is an exhibition created
by MFA candidate Narges Sedaghat.

Belonging is approached here as a suspended condition,
not fixed but continuously shifting in between.

Through layered typography, laser cut forms, and light,
text is not read directly but experienced through shadow, distance, and movement.

Three suspended transparent layers trace a passage of belonging,
home, transition, and arrival,
where the viewer’s body becomes the background,
activating the work.

Meaning remains fragmented and delayed,
held in tension between presence and absence.

The shell is a self-contained world, a place where the self gathers, it is always open, and spiraling outward. It is built layer by layer like memories, experience, and identity. I have been thinking a lot about how identity is formed. I have been thinking about how you are an accumulation of past versions of yourself, each one layered, revisied, and reactivated. Through repetition, fragmentation, and accumulation, I am exploring the way identity echos across time.

Graphite is soft, compressed, and leaves a residue. It becomes a fragile form that is always becoming something else.
