Marie Bryant was an African American woman from the 1970s who became one of the first people to make a name for herself as a professional loctician. During a time when natural hair wasn’t always celebrated, she saw the beauty and significance in locs and dedicated herself to mastering the craft.

Bryant not only styled locs but also pioneered techniques that would later become industry standards. She worked with influential figures, such as artists and activists, and soon gained recognition for her ability to create neat, stylish locs that maintained the integrity and beauty of natural textures.

Her work not only changed the landscape of haircare but also helped instill a sense of pride in the natural beauty of Black hair. She inspired countless people to embrace their unique texture, paving the way for a movement that continues to grow today.
