After one year in the making, I’m proud to release this short film today. Here is a portrait of Nelson, an emblematic figure of the Abakuá community in Havana, and of a philosophy rooted in solidarity and in what we owe the people around us. He let us into his world for a few days with @alejandro.guirola This is also a way for me to reach out to you regarding something close to my heart! I am running a crowdfunding for Akokán, an educational space in Los Pacitos, one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Havana. It holds a library of over 6,000 books, runs workshops for the children of the block, screens films, and gives them somewhere safe to spend their days. Cuba is living through the hardest crisis it has known, and power cuts now stretch past 48 hours. The people who keep Akokán alive are doing it while trying to make ends meet themselves. We are raising money for solar panels and a new roof so the space can keep going, and we are already in touch with a contractor for the installation. Any amount helps, and sharing this with people who might care means just as much. Every euro goes straight there. Please do not mention Cuba in any donation or else the account and fundraiser will be blocked which is why there is no mention of Cuba in the GoFundme thank you so much!
