Ed Oh is an artist based in Chicago, IL. Working primarily in easel painting, Oh investigates how images circulate through spectacle, media, and geopolitical framing. His current project, Verdigris, draws from screenshots of the 2023 AFC Asia Cup to generate new paintings and drawings that reframe tournament footage as contemporary genre painting. Moments of rupture, injuries, breakdowns in play serve as formal criteria for image selection, rendering the figure as the site where politics and visibility converge. The football pitch becomes a green field of labor and choreography, while stadium architecture, sponsorships, and broadcasting rights are examined as structures of enclosure. Verdigris, the green pigment that anchors the work’s palette and title, ties this material logic to the pitch itself.

Oh holds an MFA in Drawing and Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2019) and a BA in Studio Art from the University of California, Riverside (2015). His work has been exhibited at venues including 4th Ward Project Space, Casemore Gallery (San Francisco), OR (Berlin), Hyde Park Art Center, Elmhurst Art Museum, and the Korean Cultural Center, among others. taken in West Town, Chicago by @ed_y_oh
