🎨🐾 The Beginning of My Great Dane Portrait in Oils! 🐾🎨
Every painting has a story, and this one starts with the blocking-in stage. Using bold brushstrokes, vibrant purples, and magentas for the background, I’m laying the foundation for this Great Dane portrait to come to life.
💡 What’s special about this stage?
✨ It’s where I map out the composition and simplify the subject into shapes and values.
✨ The colours I choose here to set the tone and energy for the final piece.
✨ This step is all about building confidence and direction before diving into details.
The next step? Bringing this pup to life with rich colours and fine details! Stay tuned for the full-colour rendering in a future post.

Feeling incredibly grateful.
I’m honoured to have received the People’s Choice Award at the Why Do You Create? exhibition at the Visual arts Mississauga center @visualartsmississauga and that’s entirely because of the people who came out, took time, and connected with the work.

Thank you for the support, the conversations, and the love for my work! #Grateful #PeoplesChoice #WhyDoYouCreate #ArtistLife #ThankYou ContemporaryArt by @edcabral

Winding down now to final details of this work. I just need to glaze in some areas to help enhance atmosphere and depth in the grass and maybe push the swans back more with a very subtle bluish colour glaze. This will help with the realism. I need to also add reflective lighting under the belly areas as this frames them better and adds more to the realism. by @edcabral

I was given the opportunity to create a painting version of a talented Canadian Photographer Brian Gibson. The Cape May Warbler. Cape May Warblers are migrants through Ontario in spring and fall. This looks like it could be a spring male in fresh plumage. All proceeds were donated to sick kids Cancer research. Thank you Arlene by @edcabral
