Things have been getting intense, lately. In a good way, of course. Next year, there's gonna be HUGE changes to my business model. I'm very excited for the future and what's to come. But I'm also a little overwhelmed. Every day has brought new challenges this year, especially with festivals.

That being said, I love drawing at festivals. The energy is always electric. The vibe is always full of fun. People are always friendly and awesome. A great festival is something to be remembered, which is what I specialize in. Here are some awesome faces from the @atlnightmarket in Lawrenceville last month. This festival has easily become one of my wife's favorite events to attend. My son always has a blast, and the food is so good!

Seeing all of the cancelations this weekend thanks to the weather has me reflecting on just how crazy all of this year has been with festivals and outdoor events. I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to get out last month and draw the awesome people that stopped by my booth because the weather this year ain't trying to cooperate at all, huh?

Catch me at the @im.so.atl Artlanta Festival of Culture this Halloween weekend. It may be my last outdoor show of the year, depending on how the month decides to end.

I've got a lot of photos to drop for my September festival run. But before I do, I had to pay tribute to my run this year with the @rnbmimosafestival by building some video content with my friends @kingoftheairbrush and @webrnd_network_ for the most recent Atlanta show we did during Labor Day Weekend.

We're still unpacking all of our footage and organizing ourselves for longer form content. This transition has been a real journey. But this is a small taste of what we're building towards. Each video is another step forward in us learning how to get better at this.

It's always a pleasure to be of service to my city. I was invited to draw for the COE BWS Summit for @spelman_college this past Friday. I had great conversations with educators, mathematicians, economists, historians, physicians, and a host of professional women who lead the charge in STEM education at Spelman College.

What's goodie ATL! We're in the heat at the @rnbmimosafestival today. But, there's a breeze, shade, and plenty to drink out here to stay cool! I received a blessing that saved my ass regarding my tent fiasco yesterday. All praise to the Most High. We're gonna keep it pushin!

Looks like it was my turn. It's been hot all day. Business has been slow. And right when it starts cooling off, a strong gust of wind blew several of other vendors tents right into mine. The crazy part is I need this tent tomorrow for the RnB Mimosa festival. So yeah... how's your weekend... 🥹

When I first went into business for myself, my original design was to take on caricature and illustration work. I had a dream that learning caricatures could help me get into editorial work for a publishing company. I thought it would be really cool to draw political caricatures for a magazine or use the skill to highlight social relations. I thought about all of the possibilities that could come with a gig like that: sports magazines, Mad Magazine, or anything adjacent to these categories.

Somewhere along the way, I was lucky enough to be recommended to an editor for a Columbus newspaper. Finally! I could build a portfolio of editorial work. While the pay wasn't great, the vision seemed to be progressing. That gig lasted as long as it did, and these images are some of the results of that contract. Some of them can still be found published on the website of the newspaper - a local paper in Columbus Ga called the Courier Eco-Latino. Ideas changed. People moved on. AI entered the chat. Now, I can't log in for less than a day without seeing a political cartoon generated by AI.

This morning, I watched a video on YouTube that discussed the possibility of an analog comeback and inspired me to make this post. With AI becoming more popular in internet media, the theory was that people who are getting tired of the algorithmic monotony AI is producing would gravitate back to traditional media. What a thought. The commentator imagined all of the possibilities that appealed to me about editorial work. Not specifically to illustration, but in alignment with the creative outlets that traditional print used to offer. Watching that video was bitter sweet for me. A part of me wants to believe in the possibility. The other half of me mourns the world we lost.

Change is inevitable. If there's anything I've learned in business, it's this: It's great when things work out exactly how you planned them. That's rare. More often than not, an idea never makes it out of the inception phase. The ones that do are not guaranteed success.
The ones that never see the light of day were never attempted in the first place. It's okay to pivot.

Recently, I offered some of my wedding clients the opportunity to receive custom studio art for their Receptions in an effort to create some display work for my website. The new site will be featuring some improved services for my wedding clients as well as the option to order studio work from me as custom gifts.

I had a lot of fun creating this caricature from the engagement photos provided by one of my clients. It's a great opportunity for the Bride and Groom to receive a caricature without having to find time in their already busy and hectic day-of schedule. This piece gave me a great opportunity to try out my new acrylic markersand I love them. I used them in conjunction with my Airbrush, and, honestly, I'm seeing a lot of potential for them with my work in the future.

I offered a service like this during the years of the Great Cough, but paused doing so after the birth of my son. It got a bit overwhelming to manage, and my current website became obsolete in processing orders. But I aim to fix this with the new site. That being said, I'm starting up this service again, and I'm now accepting commissions!!!

I wrote a whole caption, and Instagram deleted it, so here's round 2...

This is the first of the big announcements I've eluded to earlier this month. My August started off crazy - my wife and I learned about this on the first day, even though we're so far along now. So yeah, we've been running around like confused rabbits ever since. It explains a lot, though, because my wife was really going through it this summer. We were planning on expanding our family for a while now, and we thought that the end of this year would be best as it would give us time to get our ducks in a row. But God told us the time is now, and so did my Grandmother.

Within an hour of us finding out, I started smelling Collard Greens. And not a feint whiff. The smell was powerful, as if Grandma Platt was standing right in our kitchen, cooking them for us. The crazy part was that I was driving on i-285 on the way to a contract that day. I wasn't anywhere near any kind of food.

It's been a crazy summer for me, yall, but my heart is full. My family is growing and I am deeply grateful to the Most High. 🙏🏾 taken in Marietta, Georgia by @eddieplattart
