Frozen everything… the nostrils were second most amusing to the bristles which managed to freeze themselves together above and below lip a few times. Langlaufing through an arctically beautiful arboreal treasure trove of tranquility, stream still trickling alongside, sun breaking through the odd snow-laden branch at a cool but mercifully not too breezy -15°. Mother would have approved of this one. Very few posts of ours would be complete without some sort of twilight capture so we've been sure to include one here.

Final Mongolia post (for now..). Gobi goats, some bloke on a ledge, eerie aerials, some cute nags, red cliffs, the promise of exotic petroglyphs.. apparently the fossilised remains of a velociraptor in deathly combat with a baby stegosaurus would have been visible had they not been carted, probably rightly so, to some fancy museum possibly not even in Mongolia (I think the US...). Could the comet or a seriously sudden mudslide really have captured this Jurassic Park-worthy battle or were we sold a convincing kipper? taken in Mongolia by @eddydownpatrick

Icy lakescapes up by the Mongolia-Russia-China borderlands, some of the most beautiful scenery yet to meet these eyes. Horsefolk, wrestlers, eagle hunters, hardy folk. Infinite space. Vast horizons. Tremendous tranquility. Pure peace. Mongolia 🇲🇳. There's been a delay in posts so the next batch are me playing a fair amount of catch-up. Thoroughly recommend the documentary, The Eagle Huntress (94% RT), for a moving insight into traditional Mongolian culture, not least because I met the heroine. This would have been a more than perfectly acceptable trip even if we hadn't gotten out of the truck. The roading alone was superb. Not featured, a flat tire rolling over the Chilean border to Argentina, the repair kit for which provided, as it transpired, by an outpost policeman who was in the middle of watching Argentina thrash Brazil and asked us kindly to wait until halftime for his assistance. After days of the dreariest driech, on the morning of scheduled departure, the skies above the famous mountaintops of Chaltén decided to do this, but you'd only have seen it if you were willing to start out in the dark, for last long it did not. Six weeks previously, I was hobbling around on a stick, wondering if I'd need surgery to my spine. Apparently nothing a lot of strange contortions and Deep Freeze patches couldn't help solve. Without meaning to blow the old trumpet too hard, there's been no shortage of doozie-level road trips in my innings hitherto and this one, from Quillén to Bariloche, la Ruta de los Siete Lagos, was right up there. Blasting (responsibly) along dirt roads, through streams and rivers, absurdly beautiful scenery throughout, we also made equine amigos and had a multiple opportunities to cool off in the route's accompanying waterways and majestic lakescapes. Couldn't recommend driving this stretch of your Patagonian journey more highly. In the norther' reaches of Patagonia lies a land before time, straight up "this.. is Jurassic Park" if Laura Dern and Sam Neill had been dodging velociraptors on horseback. Complete with its own volcanoes (note my use of the plural), emerald green lakes, virgin rivers with happy fish, friendly dogs appearing like spirit guides in a mystical animated epic, and, the odd inconspicuous log cabin aside, very little sign of man's interference. #patagoniaflyfishing #patagoniahorses #landbeforetime #handsomemenonhorses #neuquen taken in Patagonia Argentina, Neuquén by @eddydownpatrick

🇵🇰💚 Sunlight, twilight, and lowlight in the Fairy Meadows of Northern Pakistan and the paths leading towards the higher reaches of Nanga Parbat, the naked mountain (though I think 'lonely' a little more apt and not just because of The Hobbit), looming mightily above, a perilous sentinel. Got a little carried away and ventured a wee bit too high for folks with naught but fairly worn-out trail shoes on their feet. Nice to be able to wave across and down at Basecamp from above though. This was last October, a beautiful time to go.. had we been a touch later there'd have been even more golden embrous leaves on the litanies of poplar trees.
