As sideline producer for Gator Gameday, it hasn’t been easy but every week is a learning experience.

Some moments in baseball are bigger than the final score. This was one of them.

Just two days after losing his best friend Austin Nace, Jimmy Mulvaney recorded the final outs of a 5-0 victory while wearing a purple wristband and Austin’s initials on his glove to carry his friend’s memory onto the field.

Austin was born with Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) Type I Hurler syndrome, the most severe form of the rare genetic disease, which affects nearly every system in the body. Throughout his life, he endured hundreds of IV infusions, multiple surgeries, years of therapy, and complications including dwarfism, heart damage, vision and hearing loss, and progressive brain damage.

Though doctors once believed children with his condition rarely lived past age 10, Austin defied the odds and lived to be 21.

Austin’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the people who continue to carry him with them every day. 💜 by @edelmanisaac
