I have no fear of failing a creative endeavour. Everything is a risk, everything is a lesson. If something even works a little bit, you can take that and apply it somewhere else.

I've been "illustrating" for a few years now. My first attempt was for a previous employer and although aesthetically it hit the mark, it wasn't implemented all that well and it put me off trying to fall further down the rabbit hole. I didn't stop wanting to give it another go though, so I kept scribbling doodles and studying infinitely better artists to try and emulate their work. I kept on pushing myself until my stick figures grew into somewhat more fleshy stick figures, as gross as that might sound.

Anyway, for some reason, I refused to stop failing and eventually people started hiring me to do work for them. I don't know whether these people are insane or not, but I've enjoyed the learning experience. I like things that have a dark edge to them, I like spooky and weird and funny and fantastical and I really like finishing them, and then refinishing them, and then trying all over again.

Here's some stuff in reverse order of when I drew it, mostly, basically there's bonus early sketches at the end for the giggles. Make crappy art, it's fun and it's worth it. It's still better than ai.

(I meant to write this on the anniversary of my first paid illustration job, but I forgot to, big thanks to @jamandmeme for risking it anyway though, and thanks to all the others who have hired me here and there as well!)

SHARES, COMMENTS AND LIKES.

They're appreciated, trust me. If you've got 10 seconds to help this page out, please do. The little sparks on interaction I get aren't much, but they sort of make this page a bit more enjoyable, especially if you're reading this on Instagram or Facebook, it's so easy to blip past posts, but after a while it starts to feel like shouting into the void, and that's not overly fulfilling.

Thanks for the support!

Hey, do you like photos of things? Preferably things in Cornwall? Well good, that’s what this page is all about. Actually, it’s mostly photos, but there’s a lot of sarcasm as well. Follow this page, and then encourage your friends and enemies to do so as well.

A certain platform removed the previous iteration of EOTM, so now I’m desperately trying to recoup the cult like following I had previously, hence advertising! Follow Edge of the Map for mostly breathtaking shots of unmistakeable Cornish landscapes, random animals and occasional other things.

Follow Edge of the Map and hope you don’t eventually regret it!

Sorry I've been quiet I've been living in a nightmare.

I also forgot that I'm supposed to take photos of places.

On the plus side I saw two fox cubs (I think) playing in a field yesterday and it made my day.

I'm trying to keep up with Inktober, somewhat predictably that's going about as well as you would expect, especially seeing as I don't typically have the time to scratch my arse, nor do I have a lot in the way of ink. Some of these clearly had more time than the others, so enjoy a brief glimpse into the cascading falls of my sanity.

I also find it ridiculous to consider these scribbles any kind of illustration, but I don't know a better way of putting it, perhaps "pen tickler"?

A load of photos from the summer that I like and probably won't do that well but bugger it, why not share the effort? Who cares about likes in 2026?

I don't know what to write today, and I don't think posts without a quick read are very interesting, so I thought I'd just jot a few notes down.

• Stickers are now 4 for 5 on the website with free postage.
• Everyone who donated to my stand up to cancer thing is awesome and I'll give you an extra discount if you've done that and want anything from the site.
• Meta Glasses are for creeps.
• I had cinnamon sugar doughnuts yesterday and I think they've fundamentally revivified my curiosity for food.
• AI trying to tell me what words to use is stupid. It just wanted to try and change "revivify" in to "revive" but the problem is, "revivify" was the write choice from an emotive and technical perspective, but "revive" works better for dumbing people down. I don't think anyone reading this needs to be dumbed down, so get bent.

Slide to zoom out.

I think this will always be my favourite type of photo to take. I like black and white, I like water, I like moody silhouettes and I like this long exposure drag. I've been doing it for years and I probably won't stop. Unfortunately, these photos never perform overly well because trying to reach a targeted audience (the people who will actually like this type of work), is incredibly hard in 2026, and I'll be honest with you, this page is chaos. There's colourful stuff, there's illustration, there's design, there's landscapes and animals and just like, nothing cohesive? I'm not a cohesive person, I see something I want to do and then I poorly mimic it. I'm fine with that, I'm all about that, but does it translate well on social media? Absolutely f*cking not.

Oh, also pretty sure this page has a black mark over it from when Instagram deleted the first rendition of it. What's weird is that I basically got a whole new audience from that though, and despite this page having a way smaller audience now, I must have done something right because I've probably made more money (and when I say made money, I mean "maybe paid off the software I use to create this stuff") than I did with a much, much larger following.

I do feel slightly betrayed that several thousand people seemingly didn't miss this page at all though, but then again, the internet is full of people much more talented than I am, so really, would anyone really miss anyone if a page got binned?

For the last few years I've been trying to draw as much as possible, and a big part of that has been trying to draw all the Cornish myths and legends I can think of, I will happily call this series of drawings a bit of a failure.

The problem is, as I've gone on my style of drawing has changed quite a lot, and I've learnt new stuff and forgot old stuff and got more confident and way pickier, so after completing The Morgawr, which is something I've had on the go since February I'm going to take a rest on this project. There's still loads of myths I'd like to get too, but I've been playing with these since 2024 and I'm now concerned that all I've got is a bit of a disjointed mess, whereas if I'd remained completely clueless I might have something a bit more cohesive.

Maybe one day I'll just sketch them all out and that'll be that and we'll have something nice and all put together, but for the moment, I've done a sea monster, a mermaid, the queen of the piskies, a big dog monster and a giant and I'm happy with some of that.

I have a question for anyone with a brain, or preferably legal experience, but feel free to weigh in with your comment either way.

It's very obvious at this point that I don't trust big tech companies, billionaires and anyone who focuses on greed and pain, but I also really don't like Meta glasses. They creep me out, and I think they're just going to be used by the worst kind of people for, at best, social media attention and, at worst, being used by absolute perverts.

So here's my question, could I get them to read a QR code that would brick them, and further to that, how much trouble could I get into if a qr code went to my website and then just played a recording of me screaming obscenities?

Please don't use an AI to generate an answer, we can all do that, doesn't mean it's right. I want unhinged.

Paddleboarding and gliding over rough terrain is an immensely satisfying feeling, so flying over someone gliding over rough terrain must be doubly so. Or it cancels it all out, I'm not sure which.

This year I managed to get one decent paddleboard session over the summer and I even managed to very unsuccessful snorkel, so I feel like that's a bit of an improvement over last year. With the weather turning I'm probably going to deflate the paddleboard and get some living space back.

Anyway, autumn is calling, get ready for more greens and autumnal leaves than you can shake a limp, wet stick at.
