A morning painting session in the Luxembourg Gardens, one of my favorite spots in Paris. With gouache, I’m always looking to simplify—reducing the scene to a few strong shapes, values, and color notes that capture the feeling of the place.

One of the best parts? Watching the Frenchmen play bocce. The debates, the gestures, the endless measuring of whose ball is closest—it’s always entertaining. It also brings back memories of playing bocce with my grandfather when I was a kid.

Funny how a small painting can hold both a place and a memory.

As our French Alps painting adventure comes to a close, my heart is full of gratitude. It was such a joy to teach this plein air workshop!

A special thank you to French Escapade for creating such a wonderful experience, to our outstanding tour leaders who handled every detail with care, and to an incredible group of students whose enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication made this workshop truly memorable.

For a week, we woke each morning to the majestic presence of Mont Blanc outside our hotel windows. What fascinated us most was how the mountain never looked the same twice. The changing weather, shifting clouds, and ever-evolving light transformed its face throughout the day, offering new lessons in color, atmosphere, value, and design.

Together, we painted alpine villages, explored the charm of Megève and Chamonix, wandered the canals of Annecy, and stood before some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery in Europe. Along the way, we challenged ourselves to simplify complex landscapes, capture fleeting effects of light, and deepen our understanding of atmosphere and place.

More importantly, we shared laughter, meals, discoveries, and the joy that comes from learning alongside fellow artists who inspire one another.

It’s here!! We are here!! Today begins our Artist Retreat in Costa Brava, Spain with @frenchescapade

I’m so excited to welcome this wonderful group of artists and spend the week painting, teaching, learning, and exploring together. We took our first walk around the area today, and it completely took our breath away…. the sparkling Mediterranean, charming architecture, colorful flowers, and the most beautiful light.

As an instructor, there is nothing more rewarding than sharing a place like this with artists who are eager to grow, take risks, and paint this amazing world!!! Yay

The adventure begins today, and I’m grateful to be leading such an inspiring group. Here’s to a week filled with creativity, discovery, friendship, and unforgettable moments at the easel.

Back in the studio this week… and wow, what a beautiful whirlwind it’s been lately.

There’s something amazing about being home for a moment, enjoying my studio just a heartbeat before I’m headed of to the Plein Air Convention & Expo.

I always love this transition… after days (and days) of painting en plein air, stepping back into the studio feels different. The light feels crazy fun, the decisions feel clearer, and that feeling we chase out in the field somehow shows up!!

Grateful for this pause… and ready to pour it all into the next pieces.

Excited for the @pleinairconvention

I’ll be teaching Gouache this year at the Convention!! Hope you are gonna make it!!

Grateful for a great group of painters at my Carmel plein-air workshop. We painted at Asilomar, Lovers Point, Carmel River Beach, and the Cooper-Molera Adobe, exploring the incredible light and atmosphere of the Monterey Peninsula.

Thank you to Lorelei Gable, owner of Carmel Fine Art, where I’m represented, for giving my students a wonderful talk on early California artists and the contemporary painters.

It was such a joy to see where one of my Maui paintings has found its home.

To know it now lives in this exquisite space with that turquoise water just beyond the windows , feels incredibly meaningful to me. And the fact that they chose to hang it neatled with this beautiful whale sculpture? I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect pairing.

That Maui experience still feels a bit surreal… the color, the movement, the magic of it all. I’m so grateful this piece carries a bit of that spirit into their home.

Well… that escalated quickly 😄
Total change of scenery and I am LOVING every minute at Wekiva Paint Out in Florida with amazing friends, crew and collectors. Paint, laughter, and a whole lot of sunshine! Just after we were freezing lol!! 😂
