Congratulations @edmatthews_sound on your win for Best Sound Design @ignite_film_festival šŸŽ‰ šŸ† šŸŽ‰ And thank you to Billy, Ross, Amelia, Tom and the whole judging panel for the festival. We were up against some incredible films, so to be nominated was a huge honour and to take home this win means a lot. So much thought went into the sound design at the script stage due to the unique designing principle of the film. How do you tell a story that unfolds over two years and keep a single shot interesting? Between all the departmentsā€¦production design, cinematography, costume, hair and make upā€¦everything was planned to detail in how to evoke this story without the usual trick of moving the camera. A fundamental part of that was the sound design. They say sound can be 60% of the image and we really felt that on this project with a static camera. @edmatthews_sound really went to town capturing so many distinct nuances and detail in the sound you hear that it starts to feel like a real environment. From individual voices on the street to musical instruments being played badly initially and over time playing well. All little details that you might not consciously think of whilst watching the film but they seep into you and you feel them instead. It really served the film, told the story emotionally and was an excellent collaboration. Well done Edwin! šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½ by @edmatthews_sound

OK/NOTOK Dir: @beautyisonlypardeep @ok.notok_shortfilm A sci-fi short with a locked-off camera. The idea was to create the outside world and tell an extra story around the two main characters as they are locked in their home. They interact with whatā€™s happening outside to move the story along. A dystopian city where the police state is violently extinguishing protests. Explosions erupt, large attack drones tell protestors to stay indoors, whilst on the other side of the wall, the police storm other homes in the apartment block. We journey through the film as the seasons change, and the outside violence ebbs and flows. The only constant thing is the ticking of the lucky cat figurine as life just goes on. #sounddesign #shortfilm #audiopostproduction #protools #filmsound by @edmatthews_sound
"28 Maryon Grove" Director & Editor: @ianroderickgray "@adiancoker isnā€™t just one of my closest friends, heā€™s also one of my all-time favourite creative collaborators. Itā€™s rare to find someone whose creative instincts align so naturally with your own. From the very first time we met (waaaaay back in the day), the synergy was instant and undeniable. Some of the work Iā€™m proudest of has come from our collaborations: six music videos (and counting), two documentaries, and now, some very exciting projects on the horizon. When Adian first sent me the words to 28 Maryon Grove, I was floored. His experience mirrored mine so deeply, but he captured it with such lyrical, resonant clarity; I could never have expressed it like that. Itā€™s a beautiful piece, and I was honoured to help bring it to life." . . . . . #ShortFilm #IndieFilm #FilmDirector #DirectorLife #Filmmaking #CreativeCollaboration #BehindTheScenes #OnSet #Cinematography #DocuSeries #DocumentaryFilm #TrueStories #VisualStorytelling #FilmCommunity #IndieFilmmaker #Storytellers #PoeticCinema #EmotionalStorytelling #FilmEditor #CreativePartnership #28MaryonGrove #AdianCoker #UKFilmmakers #narrativefilm #ArtOfFilm by @edmatthews_sound
A few years ago, we had the pleasure of collaborating with artist, poet, and rapper @adiancoker on a short film titled 28 Maryon Grove. Shot entirely on film, itā€™s a poetic love letter to a North London council estate; a quiet, honest portrait of the people and places that shape Maryon Grove. Rooted in truth and tinged with nostalgia, it captures the soul of a community often overlooked, offering a tender glimpse into life on a UK estate. The film went on to win multiple awards, including Best Micro-Short at the BIFA-qualifying Unrestricted View Film Festival. Now, weā€™re gearing up for an exciting new project with Adian, and we couldnā€™t be more excited. But for now, hereā€™s a still from 28 Maryon Grove to whet your appetite. . . . . . #ShortFilm #DocumentaryFilm #Filmmaking #Cinematography #ShotOnFilm #16mmfilm #FilmIsNotDead #IndieFilm #IndependentFilm #UKFilm #BritishCinema #DocuShort #VisualPoetry #NarrativeFilm #FilmCommunity #ShortFilmLovers #FilmmakersLife #FilmmakerSpotlight #DirectorLife #BehindTheLens #DocuStyle #RealStories #FilmPortrait #CinemaVĆ©ritĆ© #celluloid #UrbanStories #London #BritishStories #Unscripted #FestivalWinner by @edmatthews_sound
