What is 'The Alcohol Myth' and how does it work?

This is something I've been building for a while now and I genuinely think it's one of the best things I've ever worked on.

What is alcohol free? I occasionally have a drink - I'm not tea total but it's pretty rare.

And if I do, I stop after 1 or 2.

Absolutely no interest in being drunk or ever experiencing that feeling again.

Being completely free of any interest in alcohol is a great feeling and means a lot more than counting sober days and punishing yourself for your mistakes.

I've built a blueprint for others to follow with all the tools you need from videos to journals.

I'm not saying that everyone should take the same approach.

For some people the all or nothing approach is the only thing that will work. But I've worked in behaviour change for over 20 years and for 90% of people it just doesn't work. It's like betting everything on black, you start with the odds stacked against you and you fail.

This isn't about moderation or just small changes either, I always disliked that approach - if you're going to make a change make it a big one and get the most benefit you can.

But ALL? No nuance, no exploration, no thought about the process, no reflection, no adaptation?

'The Alcohol Myth' is about exploration and perception, not hard and fast rules that set you up for failure and then blame you when it happens. Link in bio.

ADHD & Alcohol ☀️

I sometimes get myself to a point where I'm so overstimulated (working too much, training to a really high level, trying to take on the world, overthinking everything) that it can be hard to relax and get myself back to a 'normal' state.

Removing the shortcuts you have been relying on to help you switch off (like alcohol) forces you to find a better way.

There's not one perfect solution that works for everyone. Spend some time exploring. Reset your natural rhythms. Find a better balance and a way of living that works for your personality type.

Even if you don't find the answer, spending some time asking the question is always worth it.

Your life is worth improving.

I decided I didn't want hangovers anymore. Never been alcoholic, never been a 'bad drunk', certainly hadn't drunk myself to rock bottom. But I didn't want the hangovers nonetheless.

But EVERY SINGLE resource out there was aimed at people with severe dependency. 6 pages deep on Google searches, government websites, books, courses, organisations: nothing made sense to me because it was all aimed at people with severe addiction.

'The Alcohol Myth' is a short, concise interactive (video and journaling) course with a free 12 week add on program. It's a calm, non sensationalist, rational approach to demystifying our relationship with alcohol and making long term, meaningful changes to our lives.

Sober October and Dry January are great. But without systematically exploring your relationships, habits and social environments - what happens when it's over?

Change not Pause.

Why do so many people find it so hard to socialise without alcohol? It doesn't make us better communicators or nicer to be around so it's definitely not that.

What if it's just a case of us never really learning those skills in the first place?

We don't give alcohol to children but we have normalised giving it to 16-24 year olds.

Looking back now. How important were those early adult years in shaping who you are now?

If you're thinking about cutting down or quitting but not alcohol dependent, you're not on your own. And you don't need to figure it all out on your own either.

I think sometimes people don't stick with it because they stop or cut down for a month and they don't see miracles.

But cutting down your alcohol consumption doesn't GIVE you the things you want out of life.

What it does give you is the space to start working on them, which is an even greater gift.
