‼️‼️NOTICE: The Council have decided they don’t want to meet in person due to our planned action for tomorrow (8/9/2026). They moved their meeting online, they are afraid. We have shown we can simply disrupt their meeting by not even showing up. In light of this, EAG has decided to postpone our action. This Council meeting was simply to plan the budget, and not confirm any decisions regarding. We shall return in force for our next action soon. ‼️‼️ by @educationactiongroup26

Brilliant energy at yesterday's protest, thanks to everyone who came along. Our message is loud and clear: the government and university/polytech management cannot attack students and tertiary education without facing staunch resistance.

If you're a student or tertiary staff member in Dunedin and you're not willing to accept massive consecutive fee hikes, more cuts, the scrapping of Fees-free, and the many other attacks being peddled by our institutional and political leadership, then please message the page and get involved with Education Action Group '26. We need to make our fight back as large and undeniable as possible.

Please share far and wide!

University management is once again considering hiking student fees by the maximum 6 percent. This would be the third year in a row they have done this for a total of 18 percent. On top of the repeal of Fees Free and the rising cost of living, the financial burden of studying is becoming increasingly unbearable. This is not to mention the cuts university/polytech managements and government have been inflicting on the tertiary sector, or the increasingly bleak employment prospects for graduates.

The time to fight back is now. The time to prove that students and staff won't sit back and passively allow these attacks on our conditions is now.

Join us in protest on Tuesday 25 August at 12pm on Union Lawn to help build a movement management and the government can't ignore.
