As students return to schools across the country, it is vital for all of society to know that the roadmap to academic success…is not a secret. In fact, the roadmap to academic success is accessible to everyone.

State learning standards are the bedrock of the K-12 public education system. The more we know about our state learning standards, the more we can support our children and students.

Here’s the breakdown every caregiver and parent should know:

📍 STATE STANDARDS: The “What”

Determine what public school students should know and be able to do in each academic subject by the end of each grade level.

📚 CURRICULUM: The “How”

The materials educators use to engage students in learning state standards (ex. @greatmindsed, @khanacademy, @illustrativemathematics, @ixl, etc).

When we know how to access our state learning standards, we can better support our children at home, identify and target learning gaps, and ask better questions during parent teacher conferences…😉 taken in New Jersey by @eduunpacked

As I was listening to The Interview, a podcast from the @nytimes, @lulugnavarro asked @nycmayor Mamdani the following question:

If money was no object and you could enact anything, what would you do? After some thought, Mayor Mamdani stated the following, “One thing I am very passionate about is universal child care.”

When it comes to universal child care, every state across the United States has their own version of early learning guidelines that are publicly accessible to support the learning and development of infants and toddlers.

Another resource worth checking out is an organization entitled, @zerotothree whose vision is a society that has the knowledge and will to support all infants and toddlers in reaching their full potential.

These are the words of Kellie Lauth, CEO of @mymindspark and author of a @fastcompany article entitled, The $5.5 trillion talent crisis starts in kindergarten.

Here is her challenge to corporate america:

1. What investments are being made into schools across the United States?
