Orixá Danko was born under the first ray of the sun, his the ruler of bamboo and owner of all forest groves. He sets bamboo traps to protect us from evil spirits and energies coming into the physical realm. He works closely with negative energies giving them permission to enter this earth if passing a purification process. Whenever you see bamboo with white or yellow stripes on them, just know a purification process has been completed by him for our safety. We give thanks to Danko. NIGHT THREE • incredibly grateful to be back dancing with @unidosdepadremiguel , it’s an honour to say this is my sixth time entering the avenida as an international dancer but my first time as a destaque. This was the most terrifying experience but the adrenaline overrides it all. Being what feels like a million feet in the air in front of 90 thousand people is a different magic experience than dancing on the floor, I’ll never forget it.
I was proud to be apart of this school who chose to tell the history of candomble, praising black women and reminding the story of Iyá Nassô, the founder of the first space in Brazil for rituals of the Afro-Brazilian faith 👊🏿

NIGHT TWO • Dancing with @gres_tradicao

I’m representing Tupã, an indigenous god of thunder, storms and creation. His special powers include controlling the climate, weather and winds. He was created by the Sun and the moon. Our section of dancers was called “prayers for Mother Earth”
Was so proud to dance for this school with the themes of manifestation and unity ☁️✨

SIN PALABRAS • the last few months has been the most amazing experience to enjoy with my family. So proud that carnaval is our culture, in our blood and soul. What a lot of people don’t know is that uruguays carnavale goes for 40 days and it has been an immense blessing to live and breathe candombe y murga for the past few weeks. The last photo is of my grandfather who’s spirit was definitely felt in our favourite time of the year. And it still is going ! 🎭🪘🇺🇾 taken in Barrio Sur by @eemilsaay
