PART 2: PORTAL | ORPHIC - Orphic (adjective) means mystic, fascinating, or beyond ordinary understanding.
•
•
The chapter of life when you realize that the things you love and the person you are becoming do not fit society’s idea of what is “normal.” ORPHIC and its portal symbolize the journey toward self-expression, self-discovery, and an identity that exists beyond traditional binaries.

“ This piece was a spontaneous exploration of self-expression and identity. I sought to step beyond my comfort zone by portraying a more masculine presence, resulting in this composition of two entities merging into one another. Additionally, I wanted to explore a different stylistic approach, making this piece a true exercise in experimentation. There are elements from this work that will inspire and evolve in my future creations.”

“Hi, haven’t posted in a while… Here’s a self-portrait from last year. It is my birthday today, so I wanted to share something meaningful. What better than a piece of myself? I had so much fun painting this one, as it marks a significant milestone in my artistic journey. This is the artwork where I truly learned how to paint skin tones and manipulate light, bringing a new dimension to my creations.

The story behind this piece is deeply personal. I was challenged to paint a vision of where I see myself in the future. This self-portrait represents my aspirations and my identity. I see myself as an artist who defies traditional constructs of femininity and masculinity. Through my work, I aim to highlight and celebrate the existence and beauty of black alt-androgynous people. This is a statement of visibility and pride, showing that we are here and deserve recognition and celebration.

The dark, gothic elements in this piece are a reflection of my love for the macabre. They symbolize my journey of self-discovery and acceptance. I’ve always been drawn to the darker aspects of art and life, finding beauty in places others might overlook. This piece is not just a portrayal of my future self, but also an embrace of my true self. It’s about accepting and showcasing the beauty in darkness, and in doing so, breaking free from societal norms.

So, on my birthday, I wanted to share this piece with you all. It’s a reminder of who I am, where I’ve been, and where I’m headed. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.”

“Truly one of my favorites. It got me into my first gallery, won my first contest, and is still doing amazing things for me now.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEE

“A portrayal of the nuanced interplay between my experience as an aromantic asexual and the way the physical world perceives my essence. This depiction explores the contrasts between internal identity and external perception, highlighting the layers of complexity that define my existence. Through this lens, the work invites a deeper understanding of how societal norms and personal truths can diverge yet coexist harmoniously. ( This is one of the first paintings I made, I have come a long way…(╥﹏╥) )”

“This painting briefly explores the realm where my identity intertwines with elements I love, like dark fantasy and gothic themes, offering a glimpse into my crazy little head. I created this last year just for fun; it was only the second painting I had done at the time. It’s still one of my favorites. Since then, my painting skills have improved a lot.” (─‿‿─)

Here are some previous watercolor and pen face studies, I was thinking of not posting (ㆆ_ㆆ)... this is because of the bottom left face but it is always good to show in the art that not everything comes out perfect. Don’t get discouraged, keep going. ≧◠ᴥ◠≦
