For 7 years, I’ve stayed quiet. I’ve kept the personal battles private, never speaking out or publicly celebrating the achievements that were a result of our hard work. There were times when the negativity overshadowed the joy of those accomplishments.

But I’ve learned that, as creatives, we should always honour our own journey. Every win, big or small, deserves to be celebrated.

One of my favourite quotes says it best: ‘Even in an ocean of bad, accept the drop of good.’

And this is a moment of good.

Sometimes a mix sounds too clean, too digital, or just needs more color.

Instead of buying and maintaining a room full of analog gear, tools like Access Analog let you run your audio through real hardware remotely and print it back into your session. More warmth, more texture, and more life without needing to own every piece of gear yourself.

There’s a difference between distortion and texture.

That “pushed to the edge” sound comes from knowing how to route the session, clip the right buses together, and create tension without destroying the mix. When it’s done right, the record feels louder, dirtier, and more exciting, without sounding broken.

Turning down the fader doesn’t always fix the level going into your plugins.

If the audio file itself is hitting too hard, you could already be distorting the plugin before the fader even matters. Sometimes the real move is clip gaining first, so every plugin is reacting the way it’s supposed to.

Is Voice Of God by UAD actually special, or is it just great marketing?

Eastbound breaks down why he feels like the same effect can be recreated with a simple filter and bump in FabFilter. If the plugin works for you, that’s cool, but sometimes the “magic” is just understanding what the plugin is actually doing.

You can only mix a vocal as well as it was recorded.

If the vocal recording is weak, the whole record is limited from the start. Your chain, your mic, your room, your performance, and your levels all matter. The mix can enhance what’s there, but it can’t fully save a bad recording.

THE TLM SUCKS!!!!!! by @eestbound

Is the TLM 103 one of the most overrated vocal mics?

Every time vocals come in recorded with it, they often feel too bright, too harsh, too sibilant, and missing the body that gives a vocal its soul.

Some mics give you clarity. This one can give you a headache.

A vocal chain can completely change the way an artist performs.

U67 into a Neve Shelford, into Burl conversion, into Apollo. That’s the kind of setup that gives you tone, color, clarity, and confidence before the mix even starts.

One of Travis Scott’s biggest records started from hearing a sample playing in a restaurant.

They Shazammed it, cooked up the beat in minutes, and didn’t think too much of it at the time. Then shortly after, it started blowing up on SoundCloud and became “Antidote.”

Sometimes the biggest records come from the most random moments.
