This spring, we hit the ground running (literally) for Boulder County Public Health's Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (TEPP). Our combined goal was to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of improper vape disposal, including fire danger, contaminated waterways and trails, and unsafe public spaces, to help make Boulder County safer for everyone.

Our team logged 183 miles and 33,988 steps across the county distributing 709 pieces of bilingual print material to 81 local sites. From the Broomfield Library to the Old Gallery in Allenspark, we made sure our safe vape disposal messaging met residents where they already were.

Meanwhile, our social ad campaign carried the same message, reaching more people than Boulder County's entire population.

This digital reach got the message out, while our boots on the ground made it stick.

Check out the full campaign on our website: https://www.effct.org/bcphvapedisposal.

It's rare to get clear, quantitative feedback on the effectiveness of public health campaigns, especially those aimed at youth. Thanks to the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey, we were able to measure the impact of our efforts.

An impressive 91% of high school students and 84% of middle school students reported awareness of the Vaping Sucks campaign. Beyond awareness, the campaigns influenced attitudes and decision-making: 68% of Summit High School students reported a better understanding of the risks associated with substance use and/or felt encouraged to make healthier choices as a result of the Vaping Sucks and I Choose My Future campaigns.

Among middle school students, 74% reported a better understanding of the risks associated with substance use and/or felt encouraged to make healthier choices as a result of the same campaigns.

These results demonstrate the power of local prevention campaigns to educate young people, spark meaningful conversations, and empower students to make informed decisions about their health and future.

We recently partnered with Boulder County Public Health’s Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (TEPP) to refresh its safe vape disposal campaign materials.

Together we aimed to:

- Simplify messaging so the call to action is clear at a glance.
- Create effective messaging that, when translated to Spanish, doesn’t lose context.
- Reframe materials to highlight the why and where behind safe vape disposal.

The result? A more relatable, community-centered campaign that helps Boulder County residents understand—and act on—the importance of safe vape disposal.

Check out the full campaign at the link in our bio.
