Malaysia - Penang- George Town

One of my favourite travel memories was in Malaysia sharing my faith with a Malaysian Chinese man.

He told me he had explored different religions of the world, but whenever he prayed to the gods of those faiths, he felt an absence. He settled on Taoism philosophy as his guide.

We ended up talking about identity, the pain of capitalism, the spiritual realms, religion, philosophy, and even the impact of social media on society.

At one point he asked why I never explored other religions. I shared that what I’ve found in Jesus is a freedom I haven’t found anywhere else: I don’t have to earn my salvation or strive for access to God through good work. I believed in what Christ accomplished on the cross, the blood that was shed and I’m set free. How I choose to live in this world now is a reflection of my faith in Christ rather than earning salvation. That I can have a direct relationship with God because I’m filled with the Holy Spirit. For me That intimacy is unmatched.

After more conversations and sharing on both sides, I asked if when he explored different religions if he had ever prayed to Jesus and asked Him to reveal Himself. He hadn’t. So I asked if he’d be open to me praying for him and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to him this year so he could experience for himself whether what I’m saying is true.

He said yes. So we prayed. And I left the rest to the Lord, knowing the story doesn’t end there.

I haven’t shared my faith that directly in a while, so the conversation blessed me more than he knew.
