PLEASE READ!!!
Supporting Mexico over the US in the current world cup has become a political statement for many Americans. People of all ethnic and national backgrounds are supporting Mexico more than any other country at least from what I’ve seen in Los Angeles.

While fireworks are shot till the wee hours of the morning here in celebration for every game they win tensions rise in the team’s home country.

Many Mexicans are protesting the world cup going as far as tearing down statues and blocking stadiums. They do this because they are well aware of what the spectacle is attempting to hide.

In preparation for the world cup many local businesses were forced to temporarily close by threat of losing permits in order to give more money to Fifa’s own vendors. Millions and billions were given to clean streets and stadiums for the benefit of wealthy tourists while the locals are pushed out of their own neighborhoods. Fifa is tax exempt in Mexico by the way.

All this happens while over 100,000 people are missing. Kidnapped or killed but the cartels Mexican government official ignore or are in active participation with.

I do not mean to talk down to anyone finding joy in the games or festivities. After every win I too celebrate. But we can not allow these circuses to distract us from what is happening in Mexico and to the Mexican Americans being persecuted here when they were trying to flee.

My Mexican half came here seeing the warning signs of what the cartels were becoming. I know many who have had family held ransom. I know many who have lost family to them when they couldn’t pay. I know many who have lost family to the promise of power these cartels claim.

Tldr: fuck Mexico but love Mexicans. Buy a knock off jersey from a local vendor instead of a licensed jersey from Adidas.
