In a committed relationship with my oven 🤍

I assumed I didn’t bake much in 2025 because I didn’t have the energy to record everything. But putting this video together made me realize just how much I baked, and how meaningful those little clips I did capture really are.
Grateful for all of it.

Ingredients:

1 cup (240 ml) lukewarm milk
1 large egg
30 g sugar
2 tsp instant yeast
350–450 g all purpose flour (start with 350 g, add more as needed)
½ tsp salt (skip if using salted butter)
2 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
Oil for frying (vegetable or sunflower oil works great)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

Activate the yeast (optional):
Mix the yeast into the warm milk with a pinch of sugar and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Mix the dough:
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, sugar, and yeast. Add the flour and salt (if using), and mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough:
Knead by hand for 8–10 minutes or with a mixer for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Add the butter:
Knead in the room temperature butter until it’s fully incorporated. The dough will be sticky at first but keep going, it’ll come together.
First rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1–1.5 hours).
Shape the donuts:
Roll the dough into balls and use a bottle cap or donut cutter to make holes in the center. Cover loosely and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
Fry the donuts:
Heat oil in a deep pot to 170–180°C (340–355°F). Gently place donuts in the oil, a few at a time. Fry until golden brown on one side (1–2 minutes), then flip and fry the other side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Finish:
Roll in sugar while still warm, or glaze or fill them once cooled. by @ega_ox
