POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s taken me a while to post this… but some moments deserve their space, no matter how much time has passed.

Last year, I was invited to be part of a very special project with the Muzer Museum of Nails in China, a museum dedicated to preserving the history, artistry, and evolution of nails as a true art form. My work became part of their collection and was featured during the opening show, including the Avant-Garde Global Nail Art Show in Shanghai.

Being part of this project meant more than just exhibiting nails. It meant contributing to something much bigger, a vision that honors nails as culture, craftsmanship, and art. Seeing the scale, intention, and work behind the scenes of the Avant-Garde show made the experience even more powerful. The dedication, the speed, the teamwork… it was inspiring to witness and to be part of.

I may be posting this a little late, but the pride is still just as strong. I’m incredibly grateful, deeply proud, and so happy I was able to take part in something so meaningful. My nails are now part of history and that will always mean the world to me 🤍💅

Nails are art. And this was a moment I’ll never forget.

Thank you so much @annalee.ling for having me in this project !!! 💖

A poor mindset will keep you stuck long before a lack of opportunities ever will! 💯

It’s interesting how quickly people criticize a nail tech for wanting to make a decent living, yet have no problem supporting billion dollar corporations, like somehow, wanting to be profitable as a small business owner is considered greedy, but making millions at the corporate level is celebrated. Make it make sense!

Here’s the thing, success isn’t handed to us, and we can’t expect the world to build the life we want for us. Behind every successful professional are sacrifices, investments, education, mistakes, countless hours of practice, and the determination to keep going when things get difficult and that’s exactly why I believe education is so powerful! We’re not just learning a skill, we’re creating opportunities, building confidence, and investing in our future.

We need to change the mentality that loving what we do means we shouldn’t expect to make a decent living from it Success doesn’t happen overnight and it certainly isn’t guaranteed but we can take responsibility for our growth, change our mindset, invest in ourselves, and work toward something better. So instead of judging what others are trying to achieve or what they’ve accomplished, ask yourself what are you doing to build the future you want?

I cannot even begin to explain how many things are wrong with this mentality! 🤦‍♀️

Since when did loving what we do mean we shouldn’t be properly compensated for it?

Nail technicians are skilled professionals, artists, and business owners. We invest in education, products, equipment, and years of experience, we have overhead, fixed and variable expenses, taxes, and families to support, just like anyone else. Passion doesn’t pay the bills, and making a PROFIT shouldn’t be controversial.

But here’s something we also need to address, far too many nail techs have never been taught how to properly price their services. Understanding your costs, calculating your wages, accounting for non billable hours, and building sustainable profit margins are just as important as mastering your craft!

And let’s be realistic, I t’s 2026! Products evolve, technology advances, industry standards improve, and operating costs increase and we have to stop expecting yesterday’s prices to sustain today’s businesses.

And this isn’t about charging whatever we want or taking advantage of clients, it’s about understanding our numbers, pricing responsibly, and recognizing that our profession deserves the same respect and financial opportunities as any other. And that change starts with US! By educating ourselves, raising our standards, acting professionally, and treating our passion like the legitimate business it is.

Because loving what you do should NEVER mean sacrificing your ability to make a decent living from it.

If you’re a struggling with pricing your services or understanding the business side of nails, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Reach out! I offer one on one mentoring to help nail professionals understand their numbers, price with confidence, and build sustainable, profitable businesses, it’s time to change it up! 💖

When debulking and removing enhancement product, understanding how to position and angle your bit helps you work more efficiently, maintain control, and achieve more precise results!

Here are 6 essential bit positions and movements you should know! 👇

1️⃣ 0° | Horizontal
Keep the bit flat and parallel to the nail, applying even pressure along the spine from cuticle to free edge.

2️⃣ 30–45° | Tip Angled Down
Keep the upper section of the bit flat against the left side, gliding from cuticle to free edge.

3️⃣ 30–45° | Tip Angled Up
Keep the base section of the bit flat against the right side, moving from cuticle to free edge.

4️⃣ Vertical | Tip Pointing Up
Use the upper section of the bit to carefully remove product near the cuticle, moving from right to left in controlled passes. NEVER on the natural nail!

5️⃣ Tip Pointing Down | Left to Right
Use this position to shorten or refine the free edge, moving from left to right.

6️⃣ Parallel to the Underside | Left to Right
Keep the bit nearly parallel to the underside to remove excess product and help correct downward-growing enhancements.

⚠️ Important: These movements are demonstrated using a rounded safety carbide bit with a specific rotation direction and hand positioning. They are not universal for every bit or e-file technique.

Using the right bit is only part of the equation. Knowing how to use it correctly is what really matters!

Understanding the appropriate RPM, coarseness, pressure, direction of rotation, angle, and contact points is essential for safe, controlled, and effective product removal.

Nothing like a freshly restocked drawer 🤩💖💅

When everything has its place and your supplies are ready to go, you spend less time searching for products, interrupting your workflow, or realizing you’re missing something halfway through an appointment.

Here are a few habits that make a BIG difference:

✨ Prep before every client: Have everything you’ll need for the service ready, including clean, disinfected tools and fresh disposable supplies.

✨ Keep inventory in check: Regularly check your most used products and restock before you run out. Don’t wait until you’re scraping the bottom of the bottle!

✨ Organize with purpose: Keep frequently used items within easy reach and store everything else in designated areas.

Remember, every minute you spend looking for something is a minute you could be using to perfect your work, being organized isn’t just about having a pretty setup, it’s about creating a smoother workflow, maintaining professional standards, and giving your clients a better experience.

Work smarter, not harder!

Choosing the right e-file bit isn’t just about its shape or how quickly it removes product. It’s about understanding what it was designed to do and how to use it safely and effectively!

Here are 6 different carbide bits, from left to right:

1. Round safety barrel: Debulking and removing enhancement product.
2. Tapered cone: Accessing narrower areas and refining product.
3. Flame barrel: Debulking and refining enhancements.
4. Small tapered barrel: More precise product removal and refinement.
5. Large safety barrel: Removing bulk and refining larger surfaces.
6. Pointed cone: Precision work and accessing tighter areas.

But here’s what really matters! 👇

Knowing the shape is only part of the equation. You also need to understand:

✔️ The correct coarseness for the task
✔️ Recommended RPM
✔️ Proper pressure
✔️ Direction of rotation
✔️ Correct technique and intended purpose

Not every bit is suitable for every task, and using the wrong one, or even the right one incorrectly, can cause unnecessary friction, heat, discomfort, and damage.

And remember, carbide bits are designed primarily for working on enhancement products, not directly on the natural nail plate!

Your e-file is only as safe and effective as your knowledge of how to use it! 💅

🤦‍♀️💀💅

#truestory #nailtechproblems #nailcontent #nailmeme #naillife by @egobeauty.ca

Some nail enhancement systems require the natural nail surface to be lightly abraded for proper adhesion, but aggressively scratching or removing layers of the nail plate is NOT necessary.

The important distinction is between removing surface shine and damaging the nail plate, so why do we remove the shine?

Depending on the enhancement system, removing the shine can help:

* Create texture: Some products rely partly on mechanical adhesion, gripping a slightly roughened surface.

* Remove contaminants: Proper prep eliminates residual oils and debris that can interfere with adhesion.

* Improve retention: When required by the system, surface preparation helps prevent premature lifting.

But here’s where things get interesting! Not all nail enhancement products require the same preparation. Adhesive systems have different bonding mechanisms, some formulations adhere to a properly prepped nail with minimal or no buffing, while others require surface abrasion.

Removing the shine is NOT a universal requirement, it depends on the natural nail’s condition, the product’s chemistry, and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Remember, the goal is to preserve as much of the natural nail plate as possible while achieving reliable adhesion! 💅
