A trophy means more when you know who built the car. 🇯🇵

2002年から続く、歴史あるカーイベント
CROSS FIVE “X-5” に参加し、
今回 COOL AWARD をいただきました。

正直、こんなに光栄な賞をいただけるとは思っていませんでした。

長い歴史を持つX-5で、このRX-7を評価していただけたこと。
本当に嬉しく思います。

そして、この賞をいただけたのは
このFD3Sを形にしてくれたビルダー、
いつも一緒に楽しんでくれる仲間たち、
そしてこの車を応援してくれる皆さんのおかげです。

実は、受賞したあとに
このFDを作り上げてくれたビルダーに、

「このトロフィー、お店に飾って!」

と伝えました。

すると彼は笑いながら、

「工場に置いたらホコリで汚れちゃうから。」

と断りました。

一瞬、なんてことを言うんだと思いました。笑

でも、あとから考えると、
それは彼なりの最大限の優しさだったんだと思います。

「これは君が取ったトロフィーだよ。」

そんなふうに言ってくれているように感じました。

車を作る人と、
その車に乗る人。

それぞれの想いが重なって、
一台の車が完成する。

だから、この COOL AWARD は
自分ひとりのものではありません。

To the builder who gave this FD3S its soul,
and to everyone who has supported this car —
thank you.

This trophy will always remind me
that the best part of building a car
is the people you meet along the way.

Unveiled at Wekfest — LONGCHAMP XR-4Z (re-barreled).

A discontinued icon by SSR, brought back to life.

But this isn’t just about wheels.

I had the rare chance to meet Kazuomi Yamamoto —
the original designer of the XR-4Z, now leading Lightman R&D,
and the mind behind the legendary Regamaster.

And here’s what gave me chills—

When he reimagined the classic 4-lug Longchamp into a 5-lug design,
the car he had in mind… was the FD3S.

Not coincidence.
This fit was meant to be.

Grateful for this moment, this connection, and the story behind it.

Wekfestでお披露目した、XR-4Zロンシャンのリバレル仕様。

この「XR-4Z」は、かつてスピードスター（SSR）が手がけていた
ロンシャン（LONGCHAMP）ブランドのアルミホイールで、現在は絶版モデル。

そして今回、なんとこのホイールをデザインされた山本和臣さんと奇跡的にお会いすることができた。
現在はLightman R&Dの代表を務められ、あのリーガマスターを手がけたデザイナーでもある方。

さらに興味深いのは、このXR-4Z誕生の背景。
旧ロンシャンの4穴デザインを、5穴のスポーツカーに似合うよう再構築する際、
コンセプトイメージとして想定されていたのがFD3Sだったという。

まさにドンピシャの組み合わせ。

この組み合わせを薦めてくれたのが
@yoshi.fd3s 君
コンセプトを始めフィッティングまで手助けしてくれた。
しかもこの巡り合わせのきっかけを作ったのも彼だ。
この出会いと巡り合わせに、心から感謝。

いつか世界中の人に、“湾岸ミッドナイト”と言う作品の魅力が届きますように。

A legendary machine.
Endless nights on Tokyo’s expressways.
People who keep chasing something they can never fully reach.

That’s Wangan Midnight.

More than a racing manga—
it became part of Japanese car culture.

This post isn’t about my car.
I just want more people outside Japan to discover this story and experience the atmosphere that inspired so many of us.

I hope one day, people all over the world will discover the beauty of this masterpiece. 🇯🇵 A comparison between the iconic Japanese manga Wangan Midnight and a real-life Mazda RX-7 FD3S inspired by its atmosphere and visual style.
