We chatted about his musical origins and the creation behind the album. Regarding his songwriting process, aron! explains that, “I’m pretty into the idea of it that I don’t know that much. And so something that’s fun for me is letting the song show me the way. I’m just the one who’s writing it down. I think that the song exists out there in the ether, and then you just put up your antenna and then you write down what you hear. Part of it is the music will show you the way, and then you make decisions based on that.”

I spoke with @janineberdin about the release of her deluxe record, MORE LAB SONGS NG MGA TANGA. Janine has the invaluable ability to blend heavy rock sound harmoniously with upbeat pop tempos, pairing catchy lyrical choruses with head-banging, guitar-driven rhythms.
She explained that, “The debut record already had a narrative. And the songs that we have for the deluxe didn’t really fit the story. The new songs added to the deluxe are also more experimental. And I feel like they’re more mature, I would say, because I guess I got to know myself more. Me, my band, and my producers got to know ourselves better as a team when we worked on the first record, the initial one. So yeah, I feel like my favorite stuff from my music is also from the deluxe. I would say the deluxe is better than the initial.”

I sat down with @for.opal ahead of their last NYC show. We spoke about the origins of the band, the creation behind their latest singles, inspirations, and what’s coming next.
Regarding their songwriting process lead singer Sohvi explains that, “[Preston] and I are in symbiosis most of the time, which is really special. I don’t talk about this with friends a lot, but I don’t know anybody that I could ever write with the way that I write with him.”

I sat down with @keoband_ before their NYC show to ask them a few questions about their upcoming album Put A Smile On For Me.

Lead singer Finn Keogh explains, “I think it’s just very heavy emotionally, and I don’t mean necessarily like sonically. Obviously it’s quite heavy, but it’s one of the most honest songs on the record, I think. And I don’t think what I’m saying in it is particularly admirable or trendy. It’s kind of me calling myself out on maybe times that I might have been slightly immoral without meaning to be or whatever. And I think that’s kind of why it’s the first single, because lyrically it’s very self-deprecative as a record, hence the name Put A Smile On For Me.”

We sat down with @eichman.james to talk about his upcoming debut album, St. Catherine Street. We spoke about his musical background, the creation of the album, and his specific narrative songwriting process.
James explains, “For me it’s more fun to come up with fiction than write from my own life. You can do anything when you’re writing fiction; you can make whatever world you want and then you automatically end up instilling your own emotion from your real life into that fiction. So that’s what makes it real. Even though it’s like these characters maybe don’t exist in the real world, they still are very real because they all actually are me. They’re just like fictionalized versions of a part of myself or something like that.”

We sat down with alt-indie band @krookedkings to talk about their new chapter of technical songwriting and euphonious instrumental arrangements with their fourth studio album, In Another Life.
Regarding the album, the band explains that “it feels like a completely different direction for us. And I think for a long time we’ve kind of been saying that we want to expand our sonic palette. I feel like this record has the full spectrum of what I think we’re capable of.”

Girl Noise Festival- For Girls, By Girls, is founded on the pillar of female representation in the music industry. Each bill is full of femme-fronted artists, uplifting the local music scene to exhibit and spotlight bands to all music fans alike. Every detail was well thought out, from the organization booths to promote and share their initiatives, to the fun beaded bracelets and spray-paint style merch reading “I <3 Girl Noise,” and down to the details of small jars of pink candy that sat along the bar. by @ehrdiaries

Songwriter Liam Creamer expains, “All of these songs were written in such different periods of my life and I was listening to different things, I was doing different things, feeling different things. I was different people writing these songs.”
