She shares the story of how the shop started in 2020 with a mission of “compassionate commerce,” focusing on human connection and community rather than just selling products. 🏡
Nikita explains how their zero-waste refill model works, making it easy and affordable for college students on a budget. She also takes us behind the scenes to share the real challenges of running an eco-friendly shop, how the experience inspired her to launch her own upcycled clothing business, and why you don’t have to be perfect to make a difference for the planet.🌳

Guess hoo’s here?🦉🍫 Paul and Jeanne Johnson, co-founders of Caribeans @caribeanscr. A bean-to-bar chocolate company grounded in love, respect, sustainability, and deep commitment to the local community.
People love chocolate; many of us can eat it indefinitely. The amount of chocolate we consume and its draining production process often lead to unsustainable practices. Dangerous conditions, forced labor, and deforestation are some of the horrible effects of standard large-scale chocolate production, however, these changemakers are working to grow chocolate in a way that is mutually supportive with both the forest ecosystem and the people living and working alongside them.
Jeanne and Paul started a small cafe in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, that transpired into a chocolate and coffee company. One that starts at the pod and goes straight to the people. 🌱Geo Garden Club, created by Jenna Deane, is centered around building stronger communities 🏡through sustainability and connection to nature. What started as a gardening app has grown into a platform focused on sharing resources, growing food locally, and helping people reconnect with both the environment and each other.

👩‍🌾The project also highlights the importance of hands-on environmental education and the impact outdoor spaces around the Salish Sea region 🌊have on community well-being. Jenna’s passion for making sustainability feel accessible and community-driven is at the core of everything Geo Garden Club stands for. 🌊Meet Esteban Araya Chaves! The CEO of Florex. Florex is a Costa Rica 🇨🇷based manufacturer of toxin-free cleaning supplies. From the origin of Esteban’s father, Don Carlos, starting a business for women and mothers in Costa Rica to support themselves, he noticed the negative health implications of working with toxic cleaners for hours on end. Because of this Don Carlos and Doña Silvia started Florex, a company to manufacture human and🌱 environmentally-friendly, high-performance biodegradable cleaning products right in their home country of Costa Rica. Community is one of the most important aspects of being human. Surrounding ourselves with people allows us to further what is important and genuine about us as individuals. Maria Jose Monge, otherwise known as “Majo”, is the head of Bean voyage in Costa Rica. ✨

Bean Voyage is an organization founded on community that helps connections flourish between women involved in the coffee industry. The strengthening of these connections supports these amazing female farmers navigating an industry that undervalues their service. 💕☕

It’s through storytelling, workshops, and resources that Bean Voyage is capable of collaborating with so many resilient women to form a community that benefits everyone involved. When you interact with someone, hear their story, and share yours, you foster a level of connection that makes you a new person. Arguably a better one, with more insight, empathy, and knowledge.

Meet Geronimo and Paula, the founders of the ocean cleanup organization @mareblucostarica . In this story, you will hear about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that MareBlu is actively working to achieve. In this episode, we got the opportunity to explore the lifecycle of plastics in waterways and on beaches. The plastic waste usually starts its life in San Jose (the capital of Costa Rica) and flows down rivers into estuaries while continuing to pollute everything it touches. What MareBlu aims to achieve is directly related to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals: 6. Clean Water and Sanitation, 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities, while still managing to combat three more SDGs, 12. Responsible Consumption and Production, 14. Life Below Water and 15. Life Above Land.
