Starting in Ecuador and the United States, Flip It & Reverse It: We Are One with All There Is is evolving into an international series of exhibitions and convenings, focusing on how spirit-infused art can impact the future of humanity and the planet.

Our PAMM Convening begins with this online conversation, “Where and Why,” featuring Flip It & Reverse It supporters from institutions across the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, and Australia. Together, they will visualize the project tour and discuss how its meaning shifts across cultural contexts, why it resonates internationally, and the shared vision of building a global network of artists, (Afro) Indigenous cultural bearers, curators, scholars, and organizations committed to reimagining the change-making potential of art in society.

Tomorrow—Wednesday, June 10—at 6 PM, @artadia is hosting an exhibition walkthrough and conversation with artist @kimdacres and @eileenj8 (Director of Curatorial Programs at @bronxmuseum) on the occasion of Dacres’s solo exhibition, ‘Lost on a Two-Way Street,’ at @charlesmoffettgallery! RSVP for free at link @charlesmoffettgallery bio 🔗

Dacres is a first-generation American sculptor of Jamaican descent who lives in Harlem and works in the Bronx. She uses rubber and metal from recycled tires to create her sculptures. While drawn initially to the material for its uniquely accessible, forgiving, and malleable nature, the artist mines its metaphorical resonances with her own personal experience and the broader cycle of injustice and oppression inflicted upon America’s Black and Brown people and marginalized communities of all kinds. Often in the form of the classical bust (historically reserved for male figures of ultimate, if not even immortal, authority), her sculptures pay homage to the energy and presence of the people, particularly the Black and Brown women, who forge the diversity, elegance, and vibrancy of uptown urban life. Dacres is a 2022 NYC Artadia Awardee, a 2021 Bronx Museum AIM Fellow, and is represented by Charles Moffett Gallery.

We are delighted to welcome Eileen Jeng Lynch a speaker at The Art Business Conference in New York on Thursday 21 May.

Eileen is The Bronx Museum’s Director of Curatorial Programs who stewards the Museum’s curatorial initiatives and exhibition schedule with an eye toward expanding its presence in The Bronx and beyond. She made her curatorial debut at The Bronx Museum with Abigail DeVille: Bronx Heavens, the artist’s first museum survey. Abigail DeVille: In the Fullness of Time, a continuation of that survey, opened at Bowdoin College Museum of Art in June 2024. Jeng Lynch also curated Bronx Calling: The Sixth AIM Biennial, an exhibition showcasing work by artists who completed The Bronx Museum's flagship AIM Fellowship, a career accelerator program designed to give promising artists the knowledge and skills to sustain a successful practice. Previously, Jeng Lynch was the Senior Curator of Visual Arts at Wave Hill, also in The Bronx, where she organized exhibitions and programs, commissioned artists for site-specific projects, and managed the residency and emerging artists programs. Jeng Lynch has held positions at RxArt, Sperone Westwater, and The Art Institute of Chicago in the Department of Contemporary Art. She has been a guest curator for various cultural institutions. As the founder of Neumeraki, Jeng Lynch has launched national and global community-based curatorial initiatives. Jeng Lynch received her MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and BA from Syracuse University.

Eileen will be speaking on our Panel “Mid-Market Artists and their Legacy”. Mid-market artists occupy a vital and often underexamined space in the art world, and the question of how their legacies are built, sustained, and ultimately protected has never been more urgent. This panel brings together gallerists, estate managers, art market analysts, and artists' advocates to examine what legacy really means for artists working in the £20,000–£500,000 price range, and how their legacy can be better supported.

Last day to see Dindga McCannon’s ‘Ode to the Bronx,’ which I curated and is organized by @bronxmuseum, outside of @outsiderartfair at the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 West 18th Street. @dindga and I will be there this afternoon.

Thank you, @dindga for your vision and immense work, @fridmangallery for connecting us, Harmarkhis for your help and technical expertise, @nancyjoyjosephson for your technical advice, @waypointdrivingschool for your generous sponsorship, and @outsiderartfair for your wonderful cultural partnership. It’s been so wonderful working with you! Grateful to everyone who has come by!

‘Ode to the Bronx!’ is a celebration of The Bronx, where Dindga McCannon lives and works (between NYC and Philadelphia), and where she has family history, including living in the borough during her childhood. McCannon drew inspiration for the art car design from fifty Bronx neighborhoods—using imagery of fabric to represent the history and cultural diversity of the borough.

A pioneer of mixed-media quilting, McCannon’s ‘Ode to the Bronx’ tells and uplifts the stories of the borough, embracing its energy and resiliency. This stems from McCannon’s work as an activist—McCannon was the cofounder of “Where We Art,” Black Women Artists with Faith Ringgold and Kay Brown in New York City in 1971. Confronting racism, sexism, and the lack of support and exhibition opportunities for Black women artists, the group fostered community and advocated for each other—providing a platform for visibility and inclusion and challenging patriarchal structures.

Russell Craig (@r.craig.t1) reflects on the idea of finding the light—a perspective he credits to a formative moment of encouragement from art patron and philanthropist Agnes Gund. In conversation last month with The Bronx Museum’s Director of Curatorial Programs, Eileen Jeng Lynch (@eileenj8), Craig shared how that guidance has stayed with him, shaping the way he approaches both life and and current body of work.

Such an honor to have @nycmayor announce five Commissioner appointments @bronxmuseum yesterday! Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani also took the time to take a photo with Bronx Museum staff (first photo). Mayor Mamdani appointed Dr. Alister Martin to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Stanley Richards to the Department of Correction, the first formerly incarcerated individual to serve in this position; Sandra Escamilla-Davies to the Department of Youth and Community Development; Yesenia Mata to the Department of Veterans’ Services, the first Latina to serve in this role; and Vilda Vera Mayuga to the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings. This took place in the Museum’s lobby featuring the exhibition ‘The Seventh AIM Biennial: Forms of Connection’ and the mural by @futuradosmil.
