@dagsson and I recently sat down with @rvkgrapevine to talk about how our collaboration came together and what we’re trying to build with @icebreakerapp.is

Read the interview in the latest issue of the Grapevine or online at grapevine.is 👀

A year ago I had an idea which has now come to life.

@icebreakerapp.is is here 🎉

You can download it on icebreakerapp.is (or find the link in my bio)

Icebreaker is an app built for people visiting Iceland, but the biggest surprise has been how much I use it myself. I open it all the time to see what’s happening around town, find new places to eat, discover concerts and events, and plan weekends.

Inside you’ll find things like:

• Events, concerts & culture
• Happy hours, deals & discounts
• The Reykjavík Grapevine’s “Best of”
• Vinur, our AI local guide
• Weather & aurora forecasts
• Fuel prices across Iceland
• Parking & transportation
• Safety alerts
• eSIMs for travelers

…and a lot more.

None of this would have happened without some incredible people.

@steinaroddsson who turned a rough prototype and a pile of notes into a real app.

@dagsson and @kelarokk who believed in the project from day one. Hugleikur Dagsson created nearly 200 custom illustrations, icons and characters that gave Icebreaker its personality.

Jón Trausti and everyone at @rvkgrapevine for trusting the vision and becoming such an important part of it.

@orrieythors for helping shape the bigger picture and knowing exactly when to push and when to pull back.

@ingikristjan and @arnartheingi for the honest feedback, great advice and fresh eyes whenever I had stared at the design for far too long.

Everyone at @reoniceland for the support and encouragement throughout this journey.

And of course…

@solbjorts

Thank you for your patience, your support, and for listening to me talk about this project almost every single day for the past months.

Sorry. And thank you.

If you give Icebreaker a try, I’d genuinely love to hear what you think. The good, the bad, and everything in between.

We’re just getting started.

Have fun. Don’t die. 🇮🇸 taken in Reykjavík, Iceland by @einar.stef
