My most recent work, and the first real road test of it: an @earthquakerdev White Light clone via @pedalpcb for my dude @demianjohnston of @greatfallsnoise. Demian posted about loving his Life Pedal, but really only using the boost. I immediately reached out with a caveat-filled inquiry and, agreeing, he mentioned he'd been informed the White Light is the Life Pedal's boost section. This turned out untrue, but Demian dug how his clone sounded anyway, threw it on his board and has since completed a string of East Coast gigs with @dazzling_killmen in September around both bands playing @darkdaysbrightnightsva. Hell yeah.

Ever the polymath, he also supplied hi-res design files of his key graphics from the band's most recent long player, Objects Without Pain. I'm so stoked on how this all came together. Here's to it holding up on tour, especially since I also just repaired a Strymon pedal bassist Shane kicked a knob/pot shaft clean off of some time ago 😂

Hardposting to emphatically state @amirs_noise_devices is a generous, thoughtful and genuine soul. The enormity of his love of circuit design is only matched by his uplifting the whole damn DIY pedal community. And LOOK at how sick his PCB graphics are too, to boot! My lantswoman @rainbowdemon_ plays bass in thrashy NYC black metal outfit Manat and sought to maintain the grime of her RAT pedal without the low-end loss that circuit can often bring. Enter the @pedalpcb Frajeelay distortion, which adds a clipping switch, a clean blend and a two-band EQ. Enjoy, Talia! Fun to break out my engraver pen for the interior, maybe someday I can work that in for (simple) faceplate designs too.

Big shouts as well to the prolific and ever-generous @discordance_electric for his mod guidance on beefing up the clean signal volume as well.

Also, the weather in Seattle has been improving dramatically as of just this week, so here's to hoping I can get on my graphics backlog and have some nicely decorated and clearcoated enclosures to show soon. by @eisengesisfx

Siamese Dream was as formative for me as it was for a zillion others and remains one of my five favorite albums ever. Like many guitarists, I too have experienced the inevitable cycle of disappointment wherein you find out the Pumpkins used Big Muffs, you acquire a Big Muff, and then realize they don't really work at all in a live band mix (and that the Pumpkins never used them live, either).

This @pedalpcb Kewpie Fuzz board is a clone of the Umbrella Company Mayonaise, itself named after not only my favorite SP tune but without exaggeration my favorite song ever. So I also had to add some choice melodramatic lyrics when engraving the build date/my initials.

The circuit is based on Big Muff topology, but its switches are where the finely-tuned magic happens. Left switch pushes the mids way up, just the right amount, and gives the Tone knob way more usability. Right switch changes the texture in a focused way (it seems some degree of RAT comparison can be made here?), tastefully attenuating the high end. Finally, the top switch exposes a Mode function of sorts, which is hidden in the original pedal. It adds in a huge amount of low end by changing the circuit to run more Iike a Civil War Big Muff. Together, they make this sorta sound clearer, tighter and entirely more practical without betraying that fuzzy enormity. This is in no way a subtle pedal, even tweaked to the ends it's been here--there's so much gain on tap that you can't really dial the Sustain back to get lighter drive sounds. And that's a great thing.

Hope everyone's able to get some restful/cozy time in with loved ones. All's quiet here at EisengesisFX HQ, but I have been thrilling at this PedalPCB Median (a Wampler Ego 76 clone) board I built and swapped into the enclosure I previously used for a Warden clone I named The Gauntlet. Infinite thanks to @tallchad for his assistance with the SMD part of the assembly.

As I'll always reiterate, my clearcoating process is weather-dependent, so the updated graphic design I've readied can't be applied for another coupla months and this thing looks pretty plain for the moment. Sonically, however, it's anything but bland.

The Ego 76 is Brian Wampler's adapting the sound and feel of the studio-ubiquitous 1176 compressor, albeit I guess electronically it's more in line with an Orange Squeezer? That's above my knowledge and pay grade, but what I do know is that the Blend knob is everything, I love dialing in some serious squish and then mixing it in to taste with the natural tone/dynamics of my guitar and playing.

I also put together a quick lil' noise-focused board with some unused builds and a couple commercial pedals. Isabelle was present to cheerlead (read: take up lap/desk space). by @eisengesisfx

Had a killer time hosting @sheridanevariley at EisengesisFX HQ last week to experiment with some out-there snare processing. I have admired their drum prowess since first seeing them play with Zen Mother many years ago. More recently, they've also been doing solo work as Peg, gigging and recording with mutual motorik/ambient homies @somesurprises among other locals and, mainly, touring and recording with one @alvvaysband.

In this pic they're using a build of Daydream Delay by @pedalpcb. It essentially, via the FV-1 chip's abilities, a simplified soundalike of the Eventide Band Delay, which most would recognize as a characteristic part of the dreamier sections of Smashing Pumpkins' "Soma." I'd had it built but unassembled for like a year because I couldn't think of a suitable name/graphic (I wanted it to be Siamese Dream related, but like, satisfyingly clever enough for my lifelong SP fan self. 🤦🏻‍♂️). Hence, the enclosure remains bare. The circuit itself, of course, sounds terrific--Robert at PPCB is a straight-up wizard and a sweetie--and the distinct sound of the Daydream made for some absolutely trippy, filtered syncopation in Sheridan's hands.

Added a USB C port and a 9v jack rubber plug to this power/expression plate. Not as interesting as pedal stuff, I know, but still incredibly helpful even if it required some precarious drilling and took up my entire evening ( I had to drill out a bunch more aluminum from my Mono pedalboard to fit everything).

Headed up north today to snag some parts and return this v1 Deco to @demianjohnston. His @greatfallsnoise bandmate Shane, ever the enthusiastic performer, had errantly kicked the Lag Time knob and its potentiometer shaft nearly clean off at a gig sometime ago. I'm immensely grateful that @strymonengineering individually sells their digital pots and all manner of knobs they use in their product line. This was a careful but ultimately stress-free repair job and my first on anything this digital. Also, I rewatched Pumpkinhead during the process and it was even better than I remembered.

Made a feedback looper over the weekend thanks to a fantastic video and diagram @holyislandaudio posted some time ago. It's just a true bypass loop with a pot that controls how much of the effects return (top-left jack) is fed into the input. Sometime soon I think I'll wire up a switching jack for an expression control option. Knob, LED bezel, switch and Tayda "Tactical Ascertainment Olive Drab Green" enclosure from @lovemyswitches.

An unfortunate reality of living in the PNW and not having my own garage/shop is that ~9 months of gray gloom and 50-or-less-degree weather makes my clearcoating process, and thus any graphical application to my builds, prohibitive for most of that time. So until the late winter, stuff I make is going to be a bit more barren than I would like. Trust, however, that I have many builds in the pipeline that are ready otherwise, design layouts included!

Sometimes it ain't even about a pedal or even sound so much as just incredibly rugged utility. I used my usual oil pen underpainting, transparency paper and Rustoleum clear gloss enamel method with a chunk of an old pickguard. As mentioned, I adore expression control, so this plate has a jack apiece connecting to a hardwired cable inside. The 9v is fed from my Strymon Zuma and I use it to power either my expression pedal (at rehearsal) or for a build I'm testing (at home). Function? Yes. Form? Uh, wellllll

The Evergaol, another @moonnelectronics jawn with a FromSoft theme! This Time Waster is a clone of the Caspar Electronics Echo Bender, yet another example of how much twisted shit you can do with a PT2399 delay chip. The PCB is absolutely damn bananas, but thankfully a fellow PedalPCB forum user had created a drill template for a different Moonn board of similar size. The Time Waster CAN act as a somewhat traditional, analog-voiced delay, but that's not its purpose. No, this one you build to create mangled, oscillating repeats that quickly turn into a wall of noise. The dedicated Wet and Dry knobs are great-- my favorite thing to do is play some clean guitar while a bed of harshness screeches beneath it.

I deliberated for a bit on theme/name here, but as Elden Ring Nightreign had dropped fairly recently, I subsequently arrived at this one. The graphic itself is the game's map symbol for an evergaol, each a tomb holding one of a pantheon of formidable bosses.

Giallo Series 3: All the Frequencies of the Dark, aka a @pedalpcb Interchange Filter, a clone of the Broughton Audio Low + High Pass Filter. Theme-wise we're yet again channeling Sergio Martino, and this time with Her Holiness (and his one-time sister-in-law) Edwige Fenech, from All the Colors of the Dark.

Honestly, I just wanted to make a filter with this title/theme and if I had to do it all over again, I'd have gotten the Pro-Filter board. The Interchange Filter is meant specifically for bass and while l love bass stuff, I don't have a pressing need for what this one offers.

On the bright side, the multicolor lettering looks alright!
