Eisner Winners Re-Celebrated:

Transformers #1
Three years ago today, @danielwarrenart and @spicercolor Transformers #1 hit LCS’—and what followed became one of the biggest comic success stories in recent years.

In 2024, the series earned two Eisner Awards: Best Continuing Series and Best Writer/Artist for Daniel Warren Johnson
Transformers #1 actually sold out at the distributor before it even reached comic shops. The issue has gone through 14 printings, with a 15th on the way, and has sold more than 350,000 copies on its own. Between the cover A, retailer exclusives, convention editions, and all those variants, there are now more than 120 different versions of #1 out there.
Three years later, the larger Transformers series has now sold more than 3.5 million copies.

So on its 3 year anniversary, we’re re-celebrating Transformers #1, Daniel Warren Johnson, Mike Spicer, and the beginning of an Eisner-winning run that helped re-invigorate a beloved franchise and introduce a whole new generation of readers to the Autobots and Decepticons. by @eisnerawards

In today's Eisner Winners In The News, we're spotlighting artist @bruno_redondo_f — a two-time Eisner Award winner for Best Cover Artist (2023) and Best Single Issue/One-Shot (2024), both for his work on Nightwing.

Fresh off that acclaimed run, Redondo is teaming up with writer @joshuawilliamson for a brand-new Batman series: Batman: Justice Year, officially announced at @sandiegocomicconmalaga and set for 2027. The series dives into Batman's first year navigating his relationship with the Justice League, building off Mark Waid's recent Official New History of the DC Universe — and the logo alone is already drawing comparisons to Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's classic Batman: Year One.

No release date yet, but expect more details soon and look out for more announcements from #sandiegocomicconmalaga ! by @eisnerawards

In today's Eisner Winners In The News, we're spotlighting @officiallyofficialmo — and this time, he's got something for the grown-folks.

In March 2027, Willems will release, Words and Pictures by Mo Willems: Writing About Stories, Stories About Writing — his very first book written specifically for adults, and by his own account, a project that's been many years in the making.

It's part memoir and part writing guide. Over 25 essays where Willems gets into his creative process, his personal history, the artists and ideas that shaped him, and all the lessons he's picked up along the way. He even cracks open one of his own picture books cover to cover, walking readers through the actual choices and thinking behind it. Basically, it's Mo letting us peek behind the curtain.
Willems said he's excited to finally share his creative experiments and writing process with grown-ups for once, adding, "there is no right or wrong way to create." His hope? That the book gets people to rediscover that simple joy of just making up stories — something we could probably all use more of.

And look, the guy's earned the right to write this one. For over two decades, Willems has been doing exactly that for kids — Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny, Elephant & Piggie — the list goes on.

He even picked up an #EisnerAward in 2023 for Best Publication for Early Readers, thanks to The Pigeon Will Ride the Roller Coaster!

So after years of writing books that parents have probably read just as many times as their kids, Mo's finally writing one just for the big kids! by @eisnerawards

In today’s Eisner Winners In The News, we’re spotlighting @davidalapham Lapham — a two-time Eisner Award winner, taking home Best Writer/Artist in 1996 and Best Graphic Album–Reprint in 1997 for Stray Bullets and Stray Bullets: Innocence of Nihilism from @imagecomics

This December, Lapham is heading back into horror! 🙌 Artists From the Abyss: David Lapham #1, arrives December 30 from @onipress and @eccomics . It’s the second installment of Artists From the Abyss, a series putting the spotlight on some of the artists behind the publisher’s revived EC Comics line.
-
The ad-free special collects some of Lapham’s bloodier EC work with writers jholtham , @matt.kindt.for.real , and @joerlansdale , along with something completely new — a never-before-seen story illustrated by Lapham and co-written with his longtime collaborator, Maria Lapham.

The Artists From the Abyss series kicks off in November with @charlie_adlard , followed by Lapham in December, Sami Kivelä in January 2027, and @leomacs in February.

And that’s not the only place you can find Lapham’s work right now. Over at @dccomics , he’s bringing his art to Nightwing #142, working alongside writer @danpgwatters as part of the ongoing Bad Seeds event. It’s a natural fit for Lapham, whose darker, moodier style brings a different edge to the world of Nightwing.

Nearly three decades after Stray Bullets earned him those Eisners, Lapham is still bouncing between crime, horror, and superhero comics — and still bringing that unmistakable style to everything he touches. Salute!! by @eisnerawards

In today's Eisner Winners In The News, we're spotlighting @jefflemire — a three-time Eisner Award winner: Best New Series for Black Hammer (2017), Best New Series for Gideon Falls (2019), and Best Digital Comic for Snow Angels (2022).

With the release of The Fury of Firestorm #6, DC has officially extended the series once again — from 6 to 8, to 9, and now a full 15-issue run, keeping Lemire and artist @rafaeldelatorre_ 's reimagining of the Nuclear Man going into 2027. Firestorm — created back in the late '70s by @gerryconway52 and Al Milgrom — has long been a fan-favorite character DC hasn't fully capitalized on, and this new "Firestorm Matrix" take is clearly striking a chord. Lemire himself called it "one of those dream projects that just keeps giving," adding that the story "has taken on a life of its own." He also teased what's ahead: if issue #6 already shocked readers, buckle up — he says the twists only get bigger from here, with Firehawk facing down the Justice League's questions and Lorraine hunting for Ronnie Raymond in the issues to come.

Known across the industry for genre-bending, emotionally driven work — from creator-owned favorites like Essex County, Sweet Tooth, and Descender to major DC and Marvel runs — Lemire remains one of comics' most prolific and acclaimed voices. Six more issues (and counting) of Firestorm chaos are coming your way. would often put him in a lead position to oversee other crew members on set because I felt he could be trusted to lead effectively.

In today's Eisner Winners In The News, we showcase @jamesthefourth
A 2021 -2023 Eisner Award winning creator who is putting his support behind the indie comics community in a big way.

Earlier this year, the Something Is Killing the Children and The Department of Truth creator helped launch BODEGA @bodegacomix — the Brooklyn Organization Dedicated to the Endurance of the Graphic Arts. The new nonprofit is focused on supporting cartoonists and creators working outside the major publishers, including the independent and self-published artists who continue to push the medium in new directions.

As Tynion told @The_Comics_Journal_, he wants BODEGA to be "the voice of Brooklyn cartoonists in that larger conversation around arts philanthropy in the city."
This November, BODEGA will host its first major event, the Brooklyn Expo of Comics, led by Gabe Fowler, owner of NYC's Desert Island comics shop and the person behind the much-loved Comic Arts Brooklyn (CAB).
And the fall festival is only the beginning. Tynion hopes BODEGA can grow into something that supports the comics community year-round, with creator grants, more events highlighting different corners of the medium, and resources that help strengthen New York's independent comics scene for the long haul. This is another great support system for creators in the industry.

As Tynion puts it, borrowing a familiar line from superhero comics: "With great power comes great responsibility." by @eisnerawards

Today, we’re remembering two talented comics creators we’ve recently lost: Writer Roger McKenzie and Artist, Letterer, and Designer, Dave Lanphear.

Roger McKenzie made his mark on Daredevil during an important time in the character’s history, bringing a darker, more grounded feel to the series and helping introduce Ben Urich, a character who would become a lasting part of the Daredevil world. His career went well beyond Hell’s Kitchen, with work on Captain America, Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella, and many more.
——
Dave Lanphear was one of those incredibly versatile creators whose work could be found in so many different corners of comics. Whether he was lettering, designing logos, working in art direction, or contributing to the storytelling itself, Dave had a hand in shaping how countless comics looked and felt. His work on titles and projects including Malibu Comics, Ruse, Thunderbolts, and Return of the Dapper Men helped give those books an identity readers remember.
——
Our thoughts are with their families, friends, collaborators, and everyone who had the chance to know or work with them.
