Beneath Rozafa Castle once stood Shkodra’s bustling Old Bazaar, where merchants traded, craftsmen shaped silver and generations earned their living. 🏰⚒️

Its streets have disappeared, but old photographs preserve the memory of a city connected to the wider Balkans through trade and craftsmanship. 📸

A lost part of Shkodra. A story worth remembering. 🇦🇱

To understand what red and black mean in Shkup, listen to the voices carrying them. 🇦🇱

Through songs, flags and journeys together, Shvercerat helped bring young Albanians from different neighbourhoods into one crowd. The language they spoke at home became a voice that filled the stands. Pride inherited from their families found a place to grow among friends and strangers who felt the same connection.

For many, those gatherings gave Albanian identity a powerful public expression in North Macedonia. Carrying the flag meant carrying a piece of home, remembering where you came from and giving the next generation something to hold close.

Blue and white for the club. Red and black carried proudly alongside them. And in the songs, a love for the city they called Shkupi jonë. 💙

🇦🇱His criticism asks something of us even now. When we have an opinion about everything, do we know enough to speak? When someone points out a fault in our community, can we hear them out before questioning their love for Albania? And when we say how proud we are of our language, do we give it a place in our homes, in what we read, and in what we teach our children?

Konica cared enough about Albania to risk being unpopular among Albanians. More than a century later, one way to honor him is to practice the honesty he asked of us, especially when we’re the ones who need to hear it.

Imagine finding your grandparents’ village in a report written in 1671. A familiar name, spelled differently, carrying a glimpse of life more than 350 years ago. 📜

During his visits to Catholic communities, Pietro Stefano Gaspari recorded details of northern Albanian settlements, from households and churches to vineyards, flooded roads and people caring for the sick. Written for a religious purpose, his account offers a partial but fascinating window into the world that came before us.

For those who recognise these places, history suddenly feels closer. Somewhere among those old names might be the village your family still calls home. 🇦🇱

Where does your family come from? Tell us your village in the comments. 👇

Somewhere in someone’s holiday photos is the street you grew up on, your family’s favourite beach or the balcony where your grandmother used to sit.

They’ll remember the day they visited. You could tell a hundred stories about that same place.

Which place in Albania is a postcard to others, but a piece of your life? Tell us its story. 🇦🇱

‼️We cannot speak of honour while women live in fear.

🖤Arlinda deserved to live. In her memory, we must ask what we accept, excuse and teach in our own homes and communities, in Albania, Kosova and wherever we live.

At EJA, we celebrate our people and our heritage. That also means speaking up for the dignity and safety of women. Listen when a woman says she is afraid. Take threats seriously. Support her without blame. Demand protection that arrives while there is still time.

Let our concern last longer than the headlines. Arlinda deserved a future. Every woman does.

How much of home can a language carry? In Arbanasi, a neighborhood of Zadar, Croatia, the answer reaches across 300 years. 🇦🇱🇭🇷

Since Albanian families settled there in 1726, generations have passed down a distinct form of Gheg Albanian, carrying something of their ancestors into lives built far from their original homeland. Shaped by centuries in Croatia, their speech tells a story of belonging to a place while preserving the words of another.

Today, that language is endangered. Remembering its story also means caring about who will speak it next.

For everyone raising children far from home, Arbanasi leaves a question worth holding onto: which words will the next generation inherit from you? ❤️

Before we scrolled through screens, we stopped to look at walls. 🇦🇱

Old Albanian posters offer a different way of looking at our past. Through their colours, bold lettering and carefully chosen words, we catch glimpses of what people were invited to watch, celebrate, support or believe. Each carries something of the time that produced it, from artistic tastes to political messages.

Once made to announce a moment, today they help us remember an era. Swipe through and take a closer look at Albania on paper.

Which one would make you stop in the street?

Some houses are not abandoned. They’re just waiting. 🏡❤️

Every summer, thousands of Albanians return to the homes they left behind. For a few precious weeks, the doors open, the grandparents smile, the courtyards fill with laughter, and the streets come alive again.

But then August ends. The suitcases are packed, the goodbyes are said, and the houses fall silent once more.

Behind every closed door is a story of sacrifice, migration, memories, and the hope of returning home someday. 🇦🇱

Somewhere, a house is still waiting for its people.

❤️ Do you have a home in Albania or Kosova that you return to every summer?

Did you know that the Skanderbeg statue standing in Rome today was originally commissioned for Tirana? 🇦🇱🇮🇹

In 1937, King Zog’s government commissioned a monument to honour Albania’s national hero. But after Fascist Italy invaded Albania in 1939, the project took an unexpected turn. Instead of being installed in the Albanian capital, the bronze equestrian statue by Italian sculptor Romano Romanelli was inaugurated by Benito Mussolini in Rome on 27 October 1940.

Today, the statue still stands in Piazza Albania, a reminder of a complicated chapter in our history. A monument intended to celebrate Albania’s hero ended up in the capital of the country that had occupied his homeland.

History sometimes leaves the most unexpected traces. And behind every monument, there is a story worth discovering.

How many of you knew this story?
