POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
heyo guys, i’m going by my professional yapper name, lil Ellie, from now on 🦋 i reactivated this acc to motivate myself to transfer and sort my nature photog pics or else i’ll procrastinate doing it til infinity and beyond. but first, some general announcements:

-i’m not using this as a social tool cuz i hate the social aspect of IG lol. i’m only using it to post nature pics and my ramblings. i’m disabling the comments and closing my DMs- if u’re my friend and wanna chat, just send me an owl through WA/Tele 🦉
-my posts are purely for shits & giggles/fun & whimsy ✨🧚🏻‍♂️ cuz if it starts to feel like a chore, i’ll hate it - but watch my ADHD ass still procrastinate posting stuff 🤪
-most importantly, despite my life seemingly looking fun/happy with me doing many side quests, keep in mind that these are only the highlights and my life is actually full of terribly shit depressing moments too just like everyone’s #we’reallinthisdystopiatogether 💩

ok, with that outa the way, i start off with the giant Avatar trees at Bukit Brown (“we’ve got Pandora at home”)! 🌳👽

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
- Henry David Thoreau (1854)

Uncle Min, the camera-shy historian Lorax

Uncle Ah Beng, the GOAT gardener 🐐🌺 elders who grew up in kampongs have the kindest, warmest souls because they're connected to nature 🌬️🕊️

“All energy is only borrowed, and one day you have to give it back.”
- Avatar (2009)

my ride to Hogwarts crashed into a tree too 😞
“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
- Albus Dumbledore

“We can’t convince a monkey that honey is sweeter than a banana.” - African proverb

“But isn’t the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn’t? It seems fairly obvious to some of us that a lot of scholars need to go outside and sniff around - walk through the grass, talk to the animals.”
- The Tao of Pooh (1982)

thank you to the Trees for cooling down our cities by being nature’s free ai taken in Bukit Brown, Singapore by @ejcwl.pov

lol not IG marking this as AI content when AI could NEVER make such a Phenomenal Poster 🙄 don't insult my hard work. also, i just spotted more typos even after i already fixed hundreds of them while editing lolz but anyways, evidence that this isn't AI made! ("art" made by AI sucks and rips off real artists)

‼️warning to lame losers: i'll block any dumbasses who comment idiotic stuff on any of my posts and laugh at how crazy ignorant u are and how u have nothing better to do than comment 笨蛋 things 🐈‍⬛ this is a no-stupidity zone #keepurstupiditytourself

Julimar BioBlitz 2025 was the highlight of my internship at @conservationcouncilwa's Citizen Science department 🌟 over 90 cool doods came tgt over a fun and exciting weekend to document as many species as possible using the iNaturalist app to support the case of increasing Julimar State Forest's protection to a national park

Vivian the voluptuous Velvet worm 🧡 (Occiperipatoides gilesil) was found chilling underneath a pile of bark (elite hide-and-seek player) and everyone was so excited that we took the pilgrimage to find it again the next day after we first saw it

🌟fun fact: they have an evolutionary history spanning back >500 million years! their serial killer signature move is shooting jets of quick-hardening, sticky slime from head nozzles to trap unsuspecting victims from up to two feet 🔫

Aboriginal smoking ceremonies have many purposes/significances- they often are used during a Welcome to Country to offer safe passage and spiritual cleansing ✨🔥

Hedwig the pirate Huntsman Spider (Isopedella cana) - someone please get this guy a pegged leg and an eye patch and a tiny parrot

Saorise the Smooth Caged Fungus (Ileodictyon gracile) aka the easiest prison for ants to escape

🌟 its special move is to detach from the ground and roll around like an albino tumbleweed 🏐

"From bioblitz projects to habitat restoration and monitoring of WA’s bats, our conservation projects have taken us all across our beautiful state. We work with scientists, graduates, students, community groups, and other non-government organisations to help achieve amazing things for WA conservation. Our Citizen Science program aims to improve our understanding of the local environment, empower communities in decisions about nature in their area, and get people connected with nature"
- @conservationcouncilwa's website

Chloe the Cowslip Orchid (Caladenja flava)

🌟

Shinglez the Shingleback lizard (Tiliqua rugosa)

Daniel Heald, the Chairman of WA Insect Society, enthusiastically regaled us with so many fun facts during the insect walks and mothing of the tiny lil alien friends! he inspired my fascination with insects 🦋🐝🐞🦟🦗🐜🪲🪰🕷️🪳

One year anniversary of my life-changing Stirling Range adventure with a bunch of strangers I found from a Facebook hiking group

Basking in the golden sunrise on Bluff Knoll, huffing and puffing up Mt Trio shortly after, then fighting the torrential rain while trying not to slip and die on Toolbrunup the next day was insanely invigorating and the most alive I've ever felt. I had an arthroscopic hip surgery the December before and my overdramatic ass thought I'd never walk properly again cuz the recovery was so painful (my doctor was pissed at me for refusing to use crutches lol) - so climbing three mountains eight months later was unbelievably euphorically glorious 🌄

I've been back to the Stirling Range with the same group this April to finish Toolbrunup and Talyuberlup and there's genuinely no greater, calming feeling than meditating on top of a mountain and feeling how small you and your problems are and how infinite, powerful, beautiful, eternal, peaceful and connected the universe is ⛰️

Crazy how fast time flies cause I've been on so many more adventures with the group since and have become close friends with them. I'm incredibly grateful to them for taking care of me like I'm their family and teaching me all about hiking, camping, snorkelling, road biking and Australia's wonderful wilderness (still yet to bump into Pooh and the gang though) taken in Stirling Range National Park by @ejcwl.pov

second day of my internship with Conservation Council of WA was soo fun- helped out with bat box checks at Canning River Regional Park. met some really cool people who've been monitoring the box usage every month for a year now. we used a torch light and an endoscope to stalk the bat mojo dojo casa houses to see if they were inside and minimise disturbing their slumber. saw 3(?) lil guys- fewer than average but the rest are probably still cooped up in the trees cuz now's the season that they start to come outa their winter torpor. also cool to learn that Perth has microbats (they look like smol flying puppies with a pig's snout and oversized ears) and that bats make up ~20% of all mammal species worldwide!! 🦇

things my cat Ekko has in common with bats:
- looks like a giant bat (he just hasn't reached the sprouting wings stage of his life cycle)
- uses echolocation of loud meows to find food (more specifically, his food dispenser=me)
- sleeps all day to charge up for his zoomies at night taken in Canning River Regional Park by @ejcwl.pov

gonna start using this account as an adventure/hiking/travel diary starting off with the 3 crazy musketeers hiking 13km of a section of Sullivan Rock to Mt Cooke in the pouring rain. loved how the rain made everything glisten beautifully and all the trees were glowing green from the Makuru season. my chinese name 宛霖 means heavy rain so i've a natural affinity with the rain- only bad part was our hands were literally on the brink of frostbite. also saw a massive tree - a sucrosed up giant. inhaled a rly yummy kebab and baklava after. also tried to start fixing the frame of my drum kit but watch me procrastinate finishing it cuz the instructions look disgustingly complicated taken in Sullivan Rock by @ejcwl.pov

the first ever portrait i took of a stranger was of Mr Ong. i was heading back to the MRT after developing my film and he was outside selling the traditional ice cream i loved as a child. he saw me taking a candid photo of him and asked me abt my hobby. he shared that he'd been selling ice cream for 20 years and from the ease of which he greeted regulars, remembered and executed customers' long list of orders and calculated the change to return to them (even using exchange rates when customers gave foreign currency), i could tell he was a seasoned expert who took pride in his work. he was so friendly and kind- he allowed me to take a portrait of him and even gave me free ice cream cause i didn't have cash. after our first meeting, i'd visit him once in a while to catchup and he's given me motivation to improve my embarrassingly bad mandarin skills to converse with him better by @ejcwl.pov
