Nothing beats meeting your clients in-person where they work as a way to connect and to deepen your knowledge of their business.

That’s why two full days for Becca, Mark and Aaron on-site at the MRIGlobal offices in Kansas City last month were so productive. Two full days of strategy planning, meetings with and presentations from key organizational leaders, and tours of their facilities for a deep dive into the work they do and how they do it.

The barbecue and baseball were pretty great too ;)

We went to the office! 💼 🎉

We’re a remote-first company, but this week several of our Philly-based teammates met at our Center City offices for a day of in-person work and collaboration. You know, the way it used to be.

And because no office culture is complete without printing out AI-altered and Photoshopped pictures of each other and hiding them around the office, well… we did that too.

“What we’ve been trying to say is, ‘you want us to be the full version of ourselves. The city needs us to be the full version of ourselves.’”

@septaphilly is a major economic force in the Philadelphia region. But with post-COVID ridership still down, the regional transit system is facing a $213M budget deficit. As the transit authority lobbies lawmakers in Harrisburg for funding to fill that gap, service cuts and fare hikes could be on the table without help plugging that gap from the state’s legislature.

Erik Johanson, SEPTA's senior director of budgets and transformation, recently chatted with EK’s becca_phl about that budget gap, the multi-faceted benefits of a healthy public transit system, and how SEPTA communicates its value proposition to lawmakers and the public.

Tim is a classically trained banjo player. 🪕

Jori’s talent is genetic — her grandmother was a backup singer in a swing band. 🎙

Louis is always plucking the bass during leadership meetings. 🎸

We found out Becca has a side hustle as a punk singer. 🧷

Syreeta plays a mean harmonica. 🎵

Kevin was practically born playing the bagpipes. 📯

And Heather was the drummer for a post-punk revival band in college that promoted its shows only by word of mouth and performed in unlit cornfields on Tuesday nights. They were epic. 🥁

The list goes on and on: every single member of our team has musical passion and talent, if not full-on musical side hustles.

For months, the signs had been getting clearer and clearer. So one day late last year we called an all-hands and had it out: Are we going to do this, or what?

So, we did, and we are.

We told our spouses, children, friends, roommates and dogs and cats they’d be seeing less of us.

And they have.

We meet in Matthew’s garage in South Philly. The neighbors mostly don’t mind because Matthew lives right off 2 Street and they’re all used to Mummer’s shenanigans.

We’ve been going at it, building our chemistry, learning each other’s queues, refining our timing and writing and practicing scads of original songs.

And now it’s time to make our announcement:

Electric Kite is no longer an agency. It is a band. 🎉 🍾 🪅

Philly’s newest garage rock-funk-soul-punk band that you’ve never heard of but will soon hear everywhere you turn, to be exact.

It’s a big change for us, but we’re all agreed and we’re ready — and we want your support.

And we have merch!

There’s nothing like the energy, optimism and opportunity you can see and feel on a college campus. ❤️

It’s a treat every time we get to visit one of our higher ed clients — and last week was especially enjoyable when we got to go do muhlenbergcollege for a key project meeting.

Thank you to the entire Muhlenberg team for a fantastic and productive conversation and for hosting us for lunch in the charming Wood Dining Commons (soft serve on-demand — yes please!) and taking us for a tour and giving us a firsthand taste of the beautiful campus.

Some visual highlights include: The statue of Major General John Peter Gabriel in the front lawn; Kevin and Aaron in The Wood Dining Commons; Egner Chapel; the Trexler Pavilion for Theatre & Dance; the Baker Center for the Arts; and Fahy Commons for Public Engagement and Innovation (the first in the world to earn Core Living Building Certification – notice the dotted windows to prevent bird strikes) were some particular highlights!

Thank you again to everyone at Muhlenberg for such a special visit — and the continued partnership!

Getting to see friends and clients face to face.

@kevin_renton and @louis_miller got to have dinner and catch up with @devin_purgason, Lauren Werner and Jenny Terry from @forsythtechcc, Sara Baier from Penn Medicine, and others.

It was lovely to get together — and to celebrate Devin for winning Emerging Marketer of the Year! by @ek.philly
