An iawhiti and takatāpui led rōpū toi, practicing the sacred act of storytelling in Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau.

On the 31st of January, we gathered under the Tamatea Whakapu moon for the premiere of URBAN TANIWHA, a collaborative film response to the weavings and wānanga of Wheke Fortress’ Te Kura Raumati curriculum.

A fractured offering of image and sound, this experimental film features seven indigenous artists navigating te ao hurihuri (the ever-changing world) — connecting to te taiao, finding comfort in the shade of skyscrapers, and learning histories of a presence now dwelling beneath concrete.
