Scanning the walls of Kuala Lumpur.

KL grew from a tin-mining settlement into a global capital shaped by migration, trade and constant movement. Malay, Chinese and Indian communities have been part of its urban life for generations, alongside Indigenous communities and newer migrant populations from across Asia and beyond.

You can feel some of that history on the streets: languages sitting on top of languages, old signs underneath new ones, Hindu temples, Chinese temples, mosques, churches, shops, street food stalls and a growing gastronomy scene.

All within a few metres of each other, you might find nasi lemak, roti canai, mee goreng, Chinese hawker food, Indian Muslim mamak dishes, or food from somewhere much further away.

It’s hectic, sweaty and overwhelming in the best possible way 🤍

Ekamil Razali transforms ordinary walls at the back alleys of Petaling Street, into vibrant walls of stories, with exceptional level of detail. His art gets photographed by millions of tourists who come to Malaysia.
