It took me a half a day of trail running before I remembered I just had @bajarexmotorsports send my shocks off to @kaizenoffroad to get tuned before this trip. I’ve been so used to driving on a cloud on pavement in National Parks when I realized it’s not a cloud when we’re running soft in the rocks. I kept bottoming out and totally forgot they said I’ve got a lot of room to play with this setup now that it’s tuned, so we cranked these rebuilt @fox 2.5 DSC to full stiff and they weren’t lying! I told them my truck is a tank that identifies as a prerunner so they tuned them to meet those demands.

Before any of you get up in arms about me not hauling ass through whoop sections to show their real potential, the truck was pretty loaded down with our gear and family, and probably wasn’t the best scenario to fully unleash them on some whoops to see what they can take. I just like to go fast from time to time and I know this truck isn’t doing any jumps unless one sneaks up on me, so all I wanted this rebuild to accomplish was a much smoother ride than before that can handle weight while allowing me to drive like a knucklehead from time to time.

Now that we’ve married these @totalchaosfabrication lower control arms to their upper control arms, things are running more dialed in than ever before! Im gonna say this and it’s probably going to spark a debate, but billet is not always better. I had the top dollar upper control arms in the past and all I got was a truck that most shops could never align properly and a rebuild kit that costs almost as much as this new set did. I didn’t see the value in that rebuild kit as most of the parts are comparable minus the hiem ends and billet arm, so this was definitely the right call to make. Those days of having crappy alignments are gone now and honestly I can’t tell any difference of loss of strength by switching to a tubular style upper control arm. The main thing for me however is support. Every time I’ve talked with the team @totalchaosfabrication they have been nothing but helpful by answering all of my questions and waiting for the day I was ready to make the switch. That goes a long way with me! by @ekstromdesign

New setup is riding like a dream!

Major shout out to my team of partners that helped get me through this refresh because I couldn’t have done this without your support! We’ve got the Tundra dialed in now and it’s ready for action with a fresh set of the new @toyotires Open Country RT Pros from @teamtoyousa, a new set of @totalchaosfabrication upper control arms and a lower arm rebuild kit (don’t forget the hush butter), new @ekstromdesign tie rod ends, @fox 2.5 DSC valving and refresh by @kaizenoffroad, and a meticulous full inspection, install, alignment and service performed by @bajarexmotorsports!

I did rack up 50k hard miles on almost all of these components so to say they took a beating is an understatement, now I’ll just do my part a little sooner next time and not push the limits for so long risking a major failure. One more major prep step complete before we head off to Yellowstone and then Mammoth. Lots of hard miles are coming this trucks way and it’s definitely ready for it now!

@ekstromdesign coming through for this suspension refresh with some new tie rod ends! I may have wreaked havoc on my original set but they kept on taking a beating. Definitely curious to see how the original set has held up after 50k hard miles compared to this fresh set, but regardless I know I made the right choice getting these for my truck! They have saved my tie rods multiple times over and are exactly what you need for your Tundra!

Who put that rock there?!?

Sometimes things happen and you just make a mistake, that being said I’m not afraid to share those mistakes in an effort to help others learn from them. Always keep your eyes on the trail, it only takes a second of glancing away to change things drastically.

The main thing I’m thankful for is that I made a wise choice reinforcing everything I could when we built the suspension on this truck. From the @ekstromdesign tie rod ends, to the @camburgracing Kinetik upper control arms, the @totalchaosfabrication lower control arms and spindle gussets along with their alignment cam tabs all did their job to keep my truck from having a really bad day. Pay for the upgrades when it comes to suspension, it’ll save your ass when you screw up!
