MYSTERIOUS SKIN (Exquisite Corpse)

Oil on Canvas
48x72 inches
(each 18x48 inches)

I didn’t leave the house for four or five days straight painting this I really can’t remember actually too many thoughts

On homo nationalism, surveillance, intimacy and violence, phenomena of socialization and Omegle

I carry a lot of spite - painting is living

Self-Annihilation

Wood, oil paint, canvas, black velvet, nails
8x7x4.5ft

After Hell is Real / Jesus is Real billboards on I65, letterboxing & cinematics, treatment of AIDS and violence on queer / gay men in the 80s, 90s / emotional notes of Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA / being considered a “disposable constituency” — credits & love to emilia for middle source image

“Attention is turned away from the kinds of sex people practice to a moralistic discourse about promiscuity. The impulse to kill gays comes out as a rage against gay killers deliberately spreading a deadly virus among the “general public”. (From Is the Rectum a Grave? (Bersani, p. 220, 1987)

“Got in a little hometown jam / So they put a rifle in my hand / Sent me off to a foreign land / To go and kill the yellow man” (From Bruce Springsteen, “Born in The U.S.A.” 1984)

PERIPHERAL VISION

Oil on Canvas
46x64 Inches

After evidence based mental health and HIV prevention intervention studies by clinical psychologist Juan Pablo Zapata at Northwestern University, Peripheral Vision is a singular, split second decision between desire and isolation. When positioned between the periphery of self preservation and indulgence, which one will you choose?

Opening reception for ARTGASM will be hosted on June 23, 4-7pm, at the Impact Institute Department on Northwestern University’s 625 N Michigan campus.

(Reccomended and previously attended by the one and only @katharineoltrogge <3)
