Afterschool

1. We are asked for our photo and for me to squat down next to him. I lower a knee towards the concrete to meet him, and his knees bent with me… a subtle “I’m with you”. Age and size are one thing, mindset is another- outcome of the laws of our soul journeys. With shared grounding we bow in mutual respect. His head remains under mine as we lower, and I feel the weight of care, not as a burden, but as a vow. He is young, I am meant to hold the perimeter- soft, watchful, reverent.

2. I say “do Shaka”, he looks at my hand, and I sense a flicker of resistance in his grimacing grin. Did I offer a gesture or assign one? Did I invite play or prescribe it?

3. Holding up his hang loose hand, his pointer finger pulls inward, reclaiming the pose in a sort of Jnana mudra position; In declaration, a signal: I know something too.

4. Snack in one hand, insight in the other.
