This popped off on tiktok so sharing here as I bring my account over to ig!!

In school I felt more naturally drawn to literature and the arts, and felt an expectation that I’d pursue that in my career. But I always had a passion for understanding the human body and a fascination with development, and when I felt jealous of friends going off to study biology at uni, I had to reflect on what I really wanted to do.

I’ve had hiccups and set backs, rejections and doubts, but through each stage I trusted myself - even if that now means I’m surviving on a PhD stipend for the next few years 🫠

Advice I’d give as someone who got PhD and masters offers from Oxford and Cambridge

✨Discuss specific aspects of your previous course and research projects - what techniques did you do, what responsibilities did you have within the academic setting, and what major pieces of work have you produced. Don’t underestimate this, it can mean more than internships or work experience!

✨Show off that you’re a well rounded individual, but find a way to link all your experiences to the course you’re applying for. All of your hobbies and achievements have transferable skills, and you need to explicitly state them

✨In your interview, just be friendly, enthusiastic, and open minded! They already have your CV, they now want to see how you think, if they could work with you on a day to day basis, and if your personality and learning style will fit in to the academic environment

Remember, some things are beyond your control, and the application and interview is as much of a chance for you choose the right institution, as it is for them to choose you

If you’re passionate about your subject and are willing to do what it takes, you’ll get there
