The love and support I received from everyone encouraged me to keep pushing forward with my projects. And with that, I’m thrilled to kick off 2024 with my second release of the AWAY zine - the JAPAN issue “OYASUMI.”

In many ways, 2023 has been a rewarding year for me, offering numerous opportunities for creativity, discovery, and personal growth. Having the opportunity to wander around the streets of Tokyo during my brief layovers was one of these outstanding experiences.

All of the photographs in the Japan Issue “Oyasumi,” meaning Good Night, were shot at night. Despite Tokyo’s attraction to crowds, I had the pleasure to witness a side of the city that was free of people and commotion. It was a truly pleasant realization to feel at ease and unconstrained, as though I had all the time in the world.

In contrast to my first zine, this issue has fewer pages and focuses on a limited set of photographs created in a zine layout. To add more to the Japanese vibes, I bound the pages using the Japanese bookbinding method. I also included a linocut print based on one of my images from this trip, as well as a film canister from my old films that I processed and turned into a keychain.

Hello, everyone! I'm thrilled to share that my very first zine, AWAY: The Iceland Issue, is now available. It has always been a dream of mine to publish my own zine, ever since I started shooting films. AWAY is a dedicated collection of zines documenting my travel experiences. Exclusively for this issue, each copy is distinct from one another.

After returning from the trip, I struggled for months to know where to begin or how to organize hundreds of photos into a book, and esp to decide on the theme for this zine. Yes, I took a lot of decent photos on this trip, but the hardest part was figuring out what connected them and how they all linked with one another. I ended up organizing the photographs in a photo journal or somewhat scrapbook style, as opposed to the more popular zine design, and simply mixing my personal views and feelings with it. I admit that it was a little cheesy, but I really wanted to use the most creative way I knew to express how significant this trip was & how it has influenced my film journey to this day. Even I was shocked by the style I used in this zine, but I suppose a part of me wanted to express a deeper side of myself—something I seldom do.
