A LEGEND REMEMBERED: DOLLY PARTON (1946–2026)

Country music icon, prolific songwriter, and global humanitarian Dolly Rebecca Parton passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 80.

THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Smoky Mountain Roots: Born January 19, 1946, in Sevier County, TN, as one of 12 children in a one-bedroom cabin. Raised on mountain folklore, family ballads, and Grand Ole Opry broadcasts. Wrote her first song, "Little Tiny Tasseltop," at age 5 before she could even read or write.

Early Pursuit: Guided by her uncle Bill Owens, she began performing on local TV at age 10 and debuted on the Grand Ole Opry at 13. Moving to Nashville the day after high school graduation in 1964, she met Carl Dean—her devoted husband of nearly 60 years (who passed away in 2025)—on her very first day in town.

Rise to Fame: Signed with Monument Records in 1965 before joining The Porter Wagoner Show in 1967. The duo dominated country charts for seven years, catapulting Dolly to solo stardom and her official Grand Ole Opry induction in 1969.

Chart-Topping Era: Striking out solo in 1974 inspired her legendary hit "I Will Always Love You" (later famously covered by Whitney Houston). Alongside classics like "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," and "Here You Come Again," she crossed over into pop stardom and worldwide tours.

Hollywood & Enterprise: Starred in classic films like *9 to 5* (1980) and Steel Magnolias (1989). In 1986, she opened Dollywood in East Tennessee, anchoring a vast business empire spanning hospitality, fashion, cookware, and entertainment.

Philanthropy & Late Milestones: Established the Imagination Library in 1995, gifting over 300 million books to children worldwide. Later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2022) and named Billboard's #1 Country Artist of All-Time (2024), leaving an indelible mark across seven decades.

TRIBUTE

We the Electrics team wish to send our heartfilled condolences to the whole Parton family, everybody working in Dollywood, her extended fsmily, her friends, her loved ones and her fans.
