I love this one, but I never posted the fresh photo because Dratini was looking so raw and bloody. Then I bumped into this client in the wild, and I was very excited grab a healed photo that shows off the pretty blue color!

About color fading: There's an old school belief that color ink fades within a few years. That used to be true in Ye Olden Days, but I promise you that modern color inks will last for decades. Yes, no tattoo is ever as bright healed as it is fresh, but you can see here that Dratini still looks great. Picking clean colors with bold contrast will make a tattoo read as colorful even under darker body hair or melanin. Once a tattoo is healed, how it ages is dependent upon the client's skin and their skincare practices. Sun exposure fades a tattoo faster than anything else, so placement also plays a role in aging. Places that are often uncovered, like outer arms, will blur and fade faster than places that are generally covered up on a day-to-day basis. Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen!!

And a note about color ink and melanin: it depends upon your exact skin tone, but color tattoos are doable on a very wide range of people! On especially melanated skin, there may be limitations and some colors will show better than others, so it's important that the tattoo is designed with that in mind. If you're considering a color tattoo, don't believe any old heads that tell you color is fully impossible on Black or brown skin.

Anyway, hurray for cute shit!

Sailor Jupiter has such cool powers and I definitely didn't appreciate her enough as a child (I was into Mars and Pluto, because intimidating femmes have always been my type). This was such a fun piece to work on and my client sat so well despite what a big one it is!

Save the date! We're getting started early that day so that there's still time for you (and us!) to go out and party after you get a sick ass spooky tattoo. All three of us will be doing our own flash designs, so make sure to follow everyone and keep your eyes peeled for more posts coming soon 🎃

These cats are at a Kesha concert! I really loved doing these cute matching tattoos for a pair of friends, it's a combo of all my favorite things: bright colors, cats, sparkles, and cute outfits

A blueberry filler! This is on that awkward spot on the back of the forearm that's difficult to see on your own body - it's often the last empty spot on a lot of my clients' forearms!
