The popularity of fast fashion retailers has almost normalized manipulative tactics on e-shops. ๐Ÿ‘€ Retailers know exactly how to pressure their customers into purchasing. E-shops are pushing urgency alerts, adding hidden fees to your cart, making subscriptions easy to start but almost impossible to cancel...

Manipulative tactics give companies the short-term conversions spikes that look good on paper. The long-term effect? Fewer returning customers, damaged brand reputation, loss of trust. In some cases brands can even face legal consequences. โ€ผ๏ธ

There are ways to keep both: the sales and the trust of your customers โ€“ ethical design. Let the users click the "Add To Cart" button because they trust your product. Not because they were tricked or pressured into the action.

Choose a designer that knows (and cares) about avoiding dark user patterns. Bold typography "Ethical Design For Conscious Brands". An artistic photo of a man holding two flowers in the background. One of the flowers is pointed at the camera and is blurred. by @element22.design

We were sold the shiny promise of innovation.

A tool that can make us almost superhuman. Everything done at a fraction of a time. Borrowing us skills we maybe wouldn't otherwise have... and for free?

Things that are free usually mean there is someone paying the hidden cost. With AI it's already becoming clear: it's us. Anything from the theft of our data in the digital space to polluted water in the physical world. So if everything is becoming "AI first" does it mean it's "people second" now?

This has become apparent in many areas, including web design. There has been a surge of AI generated websites with suspiciously similar structure, copywriting and looks. The websites don't try to solve a problem people using your website might have. AI is not human-centered โˆ’ after all it's not even human. It calculates the most likely solution, which means it might not exactly solve your specific challenge.

How do consumers react to AI generated content? Many claim they don't think businesses using AI are trustworthy, some completely avoid it because of environmental or ethical reasons. By relying on AI to create your content you might lose a portion of your potential customers.

There has been a light of hope in all of this. Greener alternatives to the "traditional" chatbots are beginning to emerge. What makes them different is that they operate on renewable sources such as solar and wind. Will it be enough if others don't join this movement though?

What are your thoughts? Do you believe the AI bubble is going to burst any time soon? Share your thoughts in the comments. Graphics of elephant's head with the text "Artificial Intelligence: Let's Talk About the Elephant in the Room" by @element22.design

Cheap tricks fade โ€“ loyalty doesn't.

Too many online stores chase hype and shortcuts, hoping for easy money and fast profit. Customers notice. Trust disappears.

๐Ÿ’ฅHereโ€™s the thing: shortcuts arenโ€™t necessary to succeed โ€“ and they never work long-term. Every sale reflects your integrity. Profit and purpose? They can coexist.

Think beyond the next sale. Stop building for the next quarterโ€ฆ build for the next decade.
Respect your customers, respect your brand. Choose ethical design. Grow on your own terms. ๐ŸŒฑ Editorial-style graphic with a dark green background and layered paper textures. Text reads: โ€˜Element 22: What it stands for,โ€™ โ€˜Brands that give a damn deserve better. Sell more โ€“ without having to sell out on your values,โ€™ accompanied by a plant leaves in the background and an image of a stylish person wearing sunglasses. by @element22.design
